• I have been getting email notification that a comment is ready for approval the only thing that shows up is this:
    Author : (IP: , )
    E-mail :
    URL :
    Whois : https://whois.arin.net/rest/ip/
    Comment:

Everything is blank but the Author, and that is basically saying nothing.
I installed Jetpack recently but that is about it.
It’s been going on for about 2 weeks. I thought it was a type of spam then I realized I haven’t gotten any spam OR real comments during that time frame. It’s like nothing is getting through but the email notification that a comment is made.

Where should I check, what should I be investigating?

  • Hi Napkindad,

Try disabling JetPack first and see if comments work.

I disabled both Askimet and Jetpack and that had no effect. When I try to comment, even while logged in as myself, I don’t even get an email saying a comment was sent (though blank, as above). Write after I tested that, I did get another blank email saying a comment was given on a totally different blog posting. But once again, no info, no comment showed up.

    Try this Plugin

Nasir, that didn’t seem to make any difference.

    Hi napkindad,

If you are logged in and post a comment yourself, you should not get an email. When you make such tests you should be logged out, as anonymous. I would recommend you to disable all plugins and the theme.

With everything disabled, does it work? If yes, start enabling one plugin at a time. Once it stopped, you found the culprit.

    Thanks Johnb,
I understand disabling the plug-ins but how do I disable the entire theme? I will try the plug-in disabling in the meanwhile.
The problem isn’t really that I don’t get an email. It that I don’t get the comment posted as a comment either, whether it’s me logged in or someone else.
What is odd is I GET an email saying there has been a comment, but the info is empty and there is no comment.

    Hi Marty,

You cannot really disable a theme, but you can replace the theme with a default WordPress one, just to be sure the third party theme is not the culprit of this issue.

To change the theme, navigate to Appearances > themes in your Wp-admin and activate a default WordPress theme.
