• Help! My blog just launched and I am getting notified people are trying to register so they can make comments. I don’t see any comments pending or in spam. How / where do I go to review their requests to allow them to post comments on my blog?

I have post comments to all subscribers set up.
When I try to post a comment, it takes me to the WordPress login screen. I assume that is because I am an administrator?

I have Akismet, but don’t know if what I am getting is spam responses, but nothing going into spam folder or pending.

My email box is getting hits every 1/2 hour with people trying to comment.

    Thanks.

Are you sure they’re trying to comment, or are they just registering? There is such a thing as spam registrations, and it could just be bots hitting your registration form.

Oh. Newbie mistake. I found 25 new users as subscribers. There was nothing where I could approve them, so I deleted them all. I believe they were spam as all used some version of same email address.

Is there something I need to do or plugin to approve people before they become subscribers that can post comments? I have a check by discussion that states people must register before they can post.

Sorry, this is my first blog.

Well, first I’d ask these questions:

    1. Do you need folks to register for accounts for anything *but* commenting?

    2. Is this for anything *but* spam prevention?

If the answer is no to both, uncheck “Anyone can register” at Settings -> General in your Dashboard, delete anyone who has registered, uncheck “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” at Settings -> Discussion, and instead check “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” there.

Using this method, you won’t require folks to register, but you will require their first comment to be approved by you before they can freely comment. (the approval record is tied to the email address they enter when commenting)

If you really do want to stick with registration, you’ll need to use a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/stop-spammer-registrations-plugin/ to combat the spam registrations.
