• Hi,

I am using Genesis with the Brunch Pro theme. I have added a blog post, but I can’t get a blank comments box to appear. Even if I add a comment of my own from within WordPress, that still doesn’t show up.

I recently installed Jet Pack (because I wanted the ‘edit css’ function), but I had this problem prior to installing Jet Pack so I don’t think the two are related.

I have looked in Settings – Discussion – and I can’t see anything in there that would stop people from adding a comment. I never changed any of the default settings in there. Comment moderation applies only if people use 2 or more links – so I don’t think it’s related to that.

Within the post itself, I can’t see anything that would block/not allow comments. All I can see under Comments is a button titled ‘Add comment’ which is for me to add a comment. Under that, it says no comments yet.

I can’t figure out why the blank comments box isn’t showing up, when everything seems to be enabled. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Hi, @tanyasq. I do see the comment form on this blog post (which appears to be the only one you’ve published so far).

By contrast, I don’t see a comments form on any of your Pages (example), so if that’s what you’re actually trying to fix here, then you’ll first want to go to Genesis → Theme Settings, and make sure the option for “Enable Comments on pages” is checked there.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. This is really strange! I can’t see the comments form, and that’s whether I view the site through Chrome, Firefox, or on my iPhone. (I’ve just checked all three again to make sure I wasn’t going mad!)

Well, I’ll check with friends & family to find out if they can see it. Not something I’d thought to do, as I was just working on the assumption that if I couldn’t see it, no-one else would be able to!

It was just blog posts I wanted to add comments on, not the other pages (although thanks for instructions there – will save for future reference!) There is just the one post, as the site only went up about a week ago and I only finalised it yesterday morning!

Well, I’m baffled, but at least all my settings are presumably right. A mixed blessing because then I’m not sure what I can do to fix it!

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi, just to follow up on this – I have asked a couple of other people and they cannot see the comments box on the blog post either.

Does anyone know why girlieworks would be able to see it, when myself and others can’t?

    Thanks.

    Hi tanyasq,

I am agreed with girlieworks. Comment Form is visible on your post as i can see here: https://tstranscribing.com/hello-world

    Thanks,
    Sami

Hi tanyasq, Please check the issue again after clearing your browsers cache. Maybe there is some cache issue.

How you are checking the comment box? With login or without login?

I have comment on your post. Please confirm me that can you able to see my comment or not?

    Thanks,
    Sami

Hi Sami, thanks for your help. I have cleared the cache, also tried a different browser, but still can’t see anything. No comments box, and can’t see your comment either. The comments box is ‘without login’.

Hi tanyasq, Can you show me your screen?

    Thanks,
    Sami

tanyasq, Can we chat on skype and share your screen to me?

    (@tanyasq)

Sorry for the delay there (as my computer was doing updates so I’d restarted it!) I’ve always used Facetime so I’m not on Skype, and ever since changing my keyboard a while back I have lost the functionality to do a screenshot. If it helps at all I can tell you what is ticked/unticked or answer any questions, but I don’t know if that’s any good to you.

I can actually see your comment within WordPress, and have approved it, but can’t see it on the website.

tanyasq, I can only help you in the case if you can share your screen. Because i can not able to see the issue as you written here and without seeing the issue by myself i can not recommend anything.

    Thanks,
    Sami

Can you tell me exactly what you have selected from this page: wp-admin/options-discussion.php

Something has happened and it is actually fixed now!! I mentioned that I had seen and approved your comment within WordPress, but that it wasn’t showing. Shortly after posting that, I found a notification email in my junk folder saying the comment needed moderating, so I went in and approved it again through that. The comment then showed up, I deleted it, and the comment box finally appeared!

Thanks so much for your help.

My success didn’t last long – the comments box has just disappeared again!!

    Ticked in the discussion section:

    Default article settings
Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article – ticked
Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new articles – ticked
Allow people to post comments on new articles – ticked

    Other comment settings
Comment author must fill out name and email – ticked
Users must be registered and logged in to comment – NOT ticked
Automatically close comments on articles older than 14 days – NOT ticked
Enable threaded (nested) comments 5 levels deep – ticked
Break comments into pages with 50 top level comments per page and the page displayed by default – NOT ticked
Comments should be displayed with the older comments at the top of each page – NOT ticked

    Email me whenever
Anyone posts a comment – ticked
A comment is held for moderation – ticked

    Before a comment appears
Comment must be manually approved – NOT ticked
Comment author must have a previously approved comment – ticked

    Comment Moderation
Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 2 or more links

I never changed any of this from the default settings.

Hi tanyasq, What’s the status of your problem? Have it resolved or you still facing issues with it?

I am still seeing the comment box on your posts. Hope you are seeing to ??

    Regards,
    Sami
