Hi–great plugin, considering all it does. I’ve been running tests back and forth between it and the Add Link to Facebook plugin, and one of the main cons showing up with wordbooker is that the comments being imported from facebook are showing up on my site as me–the admin (though it doesn’t also use my gravitar…so, weird…). Add link to Facebook, on the other hand, shows the correct username.

I’ve been overhauling my comments management in the interest of relaunching my site with a long awaited post, and after lots of delays, I’m leaning towards ‘add link’ for now…though i like some of the other features you have in wordbooker.

Any chance this incorrect labeling of commenters is an easy fix?
    I am using Wordbooker: 2.2.0

    Thanks!

Excerpt should use the text from the start of the post – are you telling Wordbooker to use the Excerpt as the Post Attribute line and then craft your own post excerpt ( built in WordPress feature) then it should work.

It doesn’t help that posts on the wall look different when you view them by themselves.

Looks very different on the Wordbooker Second Test Page

    (@ericwilmoth)

    That does help.

Too bad the link option doesn’t start it’s excerpt from the beginning by default; despite the benefit of customizing the ‘excerpt as post’ feature, it adds a less than ideal redundancy…but given all the wacky variables, for now, it looks like it allows for incorporating the widest range of ideal options available…

    (@steveatty)

But the link option should start from the beginning- Wordbooker builds its own excerpts from the raw text of the base post. As you can see from the latest posts on here:

Are you using Wordbooker to produce the OG tags? Can you give me a link to the blog post that is causing the issue? Sometimes Post as a Link goes back to the post itself to get the data.

I have the option for wordbooker to produce the og tags turned off until i can determine if it’s the theme or something else interfering with the debugger.

Whatever i did this last time, though, the custom excerpt is showing in both it’s expected place, as well as next to the thumb…so despite the redundancy, now there’s at least a consistency.

Here’s the link to the post, which is now public:

btw, unless you are aware of any drawbacks to doing it this way, what i’ve decided to do is to leave the wordbooker ap on facebook set to private (only me), then manually make the final, bug-free version of the post public. What do you think?

    Plugin Author Steve

    (@steveatty)

What ever works for you Eric – I tend to publish to my blog, check it all looks OK, sometimes I do a test to my test wall (which if its a page does NOT have to be public even though you post a public post to it) and then when I’m happy I post it to the walls I want it to appear on.

I can’t get Wordbooker to go wrong with its extracts.

BTW – the og tag producer you are using creates og:type blog which was removed by FB and purged from their documentation. All blog posts should be articles (which is what the FB debugger defaults them to without complaining)

I’ll have to take a closer look at that stuff to see what’s what.

One thing I’ve noticed, btw, is that the posts wordbooker makes–since they’re from the ap, and not me, technically–they don’t show up as notifications, like any generic link/comment shared would…meaning there’s less ‘awareness’ generated by wordbooker, despite it’s push/pulling of comments.

I think I was somewhat aware of this before…but it didn’t quite register with all the fanatical testing I was conducting.

Am I missing a way to get this to ‘notify’ people…or is that something that just doesn’t currently happen?

    Plugin Author Steve

    (@steveatty)

    What do you mean notifications?

The only notifications I ever get from FB are when someone comments on a post I’ve made or when they post on any of my walls.

    (@ericwilmoth)

Steve, I’ll reply to that a bit later–I have a dire issue, i’m wondering if you’ve ever encountered this before, because I’m flabbergasted…

I just attempted to follow a link to my article via one of the facebook links–and the page was missing. I went into the admin, and it showed it as a draft. Upon closer inspection, the article–now draft–was not the last edit, but had reverted to a version several edits back…

…looking closer, wordbooker and other plugins are deactivated, and ones i had deactivated are now active!

How could this happen? Is it likely I’ve been hacked?
I don’t know if you’d have any answers, but i don’t really have anyone else to turn to, and I need to fix this, asap…but i also am concerned about the root cause and don’t want to screw things up worse…

    Thread Starter ericwilmoth

    (@ericwilmoth)

It’s so weird. It simply looks like i traveled backward in time by about two or three days. Nothing looks monkeyed with otherwise. How is that even possible?

It’s like somewhere a snapshot of my site overwrote everything…

…and just as an fyi, now that i re-activated wordbooker, it shows no diagnostic entries at all.

What does your Database look like? Any chance something has restored an old copy back onto it?

I’ve never seen anything like that – unless its something I’ve consciously done.

    Thread Starter ericwilmoth

    (@ericwilmoth)

I’ve been in touch with my hosting service–they went and synched the database, as well as files from their backup–made no difference.

I’m waiting to hear back to see if they have any theories as to what happened.

Thanks for the quick response, btw. What a hell of a thing to happen after finally making that post last night…

    Thread Starter ericwilmoth

    (@ericwilmoth)

Steve, my data got restored…still not sure what happened.

    However, there’s now a problem with wordbooker (i’ve let my host know about it to, since I presume it’s something they did, because I’m still waiting for a confirmation of exactly what they’ve been up to);

first of all, wordbooker was asking to be re-associated with my facebook account; no big deal…except it wouldn’t work. So, after a few tries I deactivated the plugin, but when I went to reactivate it, I got this error message:

Fatal error: Table ‘qbbpfuwk_wrdp1.wp_wordbooker_postlogs’ doesn’t exist in /home/qbbpfuwk/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/wordbooker/includes/wordbooker_db_maint.php on line 23

Figured I should let you know, too, since I have no idea what’s going on.

    (@ericwilmoth)

Steve, now that everything’s working again, I want to respond to your input regarding notifications.

Some of this wasn’t clear to me before because I didn’t do enough testing…but what it turns out is that whenever someone has you listed as a ‘close’ friend, then whenever you leave an update or share a link, they will get notified. However, if yer’ just straight friends, this doesn’t appear to happen, unless you tag them, or they wind up commenting on something you posted…and then another comment follows.

Part of why it didn’t seem like this was happening with wordbooker was because I had the ap in facebook set to only post to me…but after making it public (or customizing who can see it), no notification gets made. In other words, i see now that I should change the ap back to public before making my final, well-tested post…otherwise notifications will not be sent out. Now that I think about it, if you do make any suggestions in your next update to the plugin, this might be a good thing to alert people to.

    (@steveatty)

If you get a table missing error.. Which Wordbooker should have reported in its information section.. Then all you need to do is deactivate the plugin and then re-enable it.
