    Hi vahost,

Sorry that you ran into issues here!

Do you want users to comment on individual listings? If that’s the case, you want to enable comments through BD. Because we use a single page with a shortcode, using the WP comment system will simply show you one list of comments that will be visible on every listing (the same comments…for all listings)

Using our comment system, which you can enable under Directory Admin->Manage Options, Listings tab toward the top, will fix that. I’m not sure why the WP comments aren’t showing right away (are you running a cache?) but it’s probably not what you want on that page anyhow.

It’s also possible the page is set to not display comments, but again, you probably want to use the BD comments instead of the WP ones.

The setting you indicated is the one that is set, but it still isn’t working.

I tried turning off WP SuperCache and clearing the cache, but it still doesn’t work.

I would actually prefer WordPress comments because my anti-spam plugin does an outstanding job of blocking such spam. I doubt very much that it will work with your commenting system. It’s a pity.

Since your comment system is the only option, and since it will undoubtedly be adversely affected by spam comments, then there is nothing more to be done, I suppose.

I’m certainly discovering the limits to your software.

Well, it sounds very much like there’s something else going on here. First, the WP comments should be showing up if you have them enabled so that sounds like a conflict.

Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue: https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-check-for-plugin-and-theme-conflicts-with-bd/

I’d run that to see why that’s missing, because we don’t hide or control that in any way.

As for the BD comments, we integrate with Akismet, same as WP and use the exact same system to deal with spam and such. We have no complaints about spam with BD comments on listings to date and many people use that. Have you actually tried looking at the settings for it? We have ways of handling that already.

If you want we can continue this discussion offline https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/contact/ It may be more productive.

Sorry, I should have said, “…since it will undoubtedly be adversely affected by spam comments with any system that doesn’t use a CAPTCHA approach…”

The best anti-spam systems these days are not CAPTCHA based.

Our anti-spam measures include both Akismet and reCAPTCHA. Akismet isn’t a captcha-based system and uses an algorithm to detect spam based on IP, user and content, which is the same one WordPress uses. The captcha is another option and both can be used together. The captcha was added because users requested it. I understand that your suggestion has an alternative and as we already noted, we added this to the list to add in a future release. Since we’re a small team, we don’t have the bandwidth to add everything on demand.

We would be happy to help troubleshoot more if you can provide the answers I requested above.
