• Hi all,
I’m having difficulty getting my comments to work. I have mod_rewrite installed (was preinstalled with apache) and I have permalinks set to:
    /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
I also dropped an .htaccess file into my base directory (there wasn’t one present). So my questions is…why is it when I click on the comments on my main page, that it takes me to https://www.mydomain.com/archives/2004/month/day/postname/#comment and that this page is never available? How can it be available until someone makes a comment right? I’ve looked at folder permissions and chown of the folders to give it full access recursively. Do I need to create folders for it and give it permissions? Did I chown to the wrong thing when I chown’d to apache? I just need a bit of help here.

  • the folder structure is pseudo created by teh apache rewrites. u dont create folders manually. if the rewrite rulez are working… the links should.

Have you tried removing the permalink rules and seeing what happens ?
As far as I know, all the mod_rewrite stuff does is make things look nicer for search bots and the likes, but right now, I’d take them out, check it all works, and then at least if you put it back and it does not work you’ll be closer to knowing what is going wrong ?

I’ll give it a go by turning off the permalink rules….doing this as I type….and it works fine. So, I guess the problem lies somewhere with trying to establish permalinks. I’ll browse along these forums to see if I can locate anything unless someone would like to point me specifically somewhere for more info ont he subject ?? Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
