Comparison with other methods of hiding emails and phone numbers

    Hi,

    I was thinking of using an encryption plugin such as Email Encoder Bundle – Protect Email Address. However I noticed cryptex and was wondering whether there is an advantage of using this method of creating images rather than the usual JS encryption method?

    Hi,

    the answer is quite simple: “JS Encryption” does not work well, because the decryption key has to be embedded into the html page itself!

    Modern crawlers will detect those encoded addresses and decode them – it requires only a few lines of code.

    Using images requires the use of OCR, which need a lot more computing power – therefore it is not used to capture large amount of sites.
