Hi, I have used generatepress theme in my website and I am facing an issue of compatibility. I have used a plugin ” Easy video reviews” which did not work on my website properly.
I asked the plugin team and they have told me that its a compatibility issue with your theme.
I installed generatepress on fresh website and its working with this plugin but not on my main website.
There is something wrong in my theme and I will request you to guide me if some files are corrupted in my theme and how can I fix it.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

GP works with all well-coded plugins that are built to work with WP themes.

I installed generatepress on fresh website and its working with this plugin

This tells me that there isn’t a compatibility issue.

but not on my main website.

Perhaps there is another plugin or some custom function that’s causing the conflict.

If you feel like some files are corrupted within the theme (I doubt this is the case) then you can just reinstall the theme.

    Hope this helps.

How can i debug this that “there is another plugin or custom function that’s causing the conflict.” ?

In my website when I change my theme, it works fine so I think there is something wrong within my theme that I dont know of.

    Hi @adnanshah7272,

To check for plugin conflict, you’ll need to disable plugins one by one, and then check for the occurrence or non-occurrence of the issue as you go by.

As you mentioned, if it’s working with a different theme, the plugin you’re using might be in conflict with GeneratePress code. What’s exactly the issue with the plugin?

For reference, GeneratePress is coded inline with WordPress Codex standard. It should theoretically work with any plugin coded inline with the WordPress Codex as well.

Exactly thats what i a asking is that some plugin is corrupting my generatepress theme files but i dont know how to find it. I tried by deactivating all plugins but that doesn’t solve my issue. Then I change theme and that is where I got that there is actually theme compatibility issue.
The plugin “easy video reviews” record a video actually by asking permission from owner first. https://bahlon.com/reviews/ is a reference area.

You can also try re-installing the theme to be sure. It would be good to take a backup of your site before doing this though.

I reckon you mentioned that the support of that plugin says that the theme isn’t compatible. Maybe you can reach out to them, and ask if there are steps that can be done to make it compatible.

Then I change theme and that is where I got that there is actually theme compatibility issue.

Sorry to jump in here ??

@adnanshah7272: The thing to understand is that… when two things do not work together, you cannot simply conclude that one or the other is the culprit with a simple test like this.

You can only come to such a conclusion when you know what the specific coding error is and whose code it is. Put another way, you can only come to a conclusion when you know what rule is being broken, and who is breaking the rule.

I installed generatepress on fresh website and its working with this plugin but not on my main website.

If the GeneratePress theme were the problem, how would the same theme work with the same plugin — without any issues — on another site as in this test?

This alone should tell you there’s something else at play here besides the GeneratePress theme and the plugin in question: because in this test you performed yourself the two work together without a problem.

Now, I’ll suggest you focus on looking for a solution to the problem, rather than who is to blame.

    1) Fernando has already suggested you re-install the GeneratePress theme, just in case there’s some corruption. Have you done this already? What was the outcome?

    2) If re-installing doesn’t help… kindly describe the exact problem you’re having. You only mentioned that the plugin “did not work on my website properly”. What exactly happens when you try to use the plugin? If there’s an error message, can you share it or post a screenshot? We need more information about the problem before we can help you.

    3) If there’s no error message, kindly turn on debugging in WordPress. If there’s indeed a “compatibility issue”, you should see some error message on screen (or in your configured error rile) when you try to use the plugin and the problem occurs. Please report any error message you’re seeing so we can dig into this further for you.

    4) Finally, Fernando has also suggested you contact the plugin’s developer (again). Whatever the cause of the problem, as long as their plugin is broken, it’s still their responsibility to track down exactly what 3rd-party code is causing their plugin to break.

Saying “compatibility issue with your theme” is not enough: what’s the evidence? What “specific compatibility issue”? What error message? What line of code in the theme is causing the problem? And did you mention to them that when you installed their plugin and the same theme on another site, there was no problem?

    Standing by.
