• Hi,

First off, I’d like to say that I really hate how the plugin works, and it makes you look like a designer from 1967.

Nevertheless, Google are pushing AMP and if they REALLY wanted to make websites faster, why not get rid of all the ads?

Dunno, might be a cash thing?

    Anyway, on to my point.

I still cannot get AMP to work on PAGES, though posts seem to be working fine. CPTs seem to be working fine too, but there’s a problem with the ‘Visual Composer’ galleries in there.

The photos show fair enough – but they repeat, and repeat, and repeat etc – up to five times each down the page content, making it look a little silly.

These pictures are placed once each into a Visual Composer gallery module, which begs the question – is AMP compatible with Visual Composer gallery modules?

The plugin has not been tested for compatibility with Visual Composer. You may get acceptable AMP pages when using the new Paired mode in v1.0, but if custom JavaScript is required then this will get stripped in the AMP response (since it is disallowed in AMP).

In order to implement galleries in AMP pages, the use of amp-carousel or AMP another component is normally required. See https://ampbyexample.com/advanced/image_galleries_with_amp-carousel/

Ok, so you’re saying that the AMP plugin has not been tested with Visual Composer, and that I MIGHT get acceptable AMP pages using Paired Mode.

Last time I tried this (the old version 0.7 or something), it made a right mess of everything except the blog posts – duplicating and even triplicating those images in Visual Composer galleries in pages and CPTs.

If I wanted to use pages and CPTs as AMP pages, does that mean that I need to throw all of my normal pages and CPTs away in favour of using AMP?

Or is there a page builder, or AMP modifier that can just be used for AMP versions, like in another well-used AMP plugin?

And this ‘AMP Carousel’ you mention – is there a plugin for it, or does it need to be uploaded in various segments by ftp?

Yes, I recall seeing this as well now that you mention it. I believe the problem is that Visual Composer relies on JS to show/hide the various image sizes, and this is not compatible with AMP.

It depends. If you’re using a theme/plugin that relies on JS to build these pages, then it won’t work in AMP.

Or is there a page builder, or AMP modifier that can just be used for AMP versions, like in another well-used AMP plugin?

I recall that Beaver Builder worked better perhaps, but it has’t been tested extensively.

And this ‘AMP Carousel’ you mention – is there a plugin for it, or does it need to be uploaded in various segments by ftp?

It should be done as part of the plugin that offers the gallery feature itself. The plugin should be itself outputting an amp-carousel when the page is being served as AMP. The galleries in Jetpack should become AMP-compatible in the not-too-distant future.

    Thanks for the answers.

It looks then like I’ll have to settle with the other AMP plugin which has a page builder built into it.

Pity, as I liked the way this one worked – even with just the blog posts and choosing either a light version, or a dark version.

Just a case of ‘you can’t have your AMP and eat it’ I suppose.

Just tried the new version, and it’s hopeless trying to get any sort of design going.

Tried both WITH and WITHOUT the Yoast Glue plugin.

Impossible to get a theme colour change from light to dark – even on ‘classic’ mode which worked before on 0.7.

Viewing an AMP version in the paired and native views sent my website from a black background to near-enough pure white, again with no chance of colour editing as the header looked poor, but at least there didn’t seem to be a conflict with visual composer – though i never got as far as viewing a portfolio page.

A major disappointment for web users using dark backgrounds I’m afraid.
