• I am looking to get away from MovableType and have been recommended WordPress by a bunch of people. I currently use W.bloggar to submit new blog entries right from my desktop and this is a nice option I have. Is WordPress compatible with any of the desktop (Win or Mac) blogging programs out there? If so, what do you use?

  • There’s an e-mail blogging function in WordPress.

Plus you can submit entries from *any* desktop. WP has no client side software.

although a few of the generic desktop posting apps work with WP i believe.

Yeah, w.Bloggar works with WordPress. I know that with BloGTK you have to type in the xmlrpc URL of your blog, usually https://yourblogurl/xmlrpc.php and then tell it that it’s movabletype. I don’t know how w.bloggar works though, but I think it should be the same.

WP supports the movabletype, metaweblog and blogger APIs, so any tools that support these APIs will work with wordpress.

    And that include w.bloggar ??

I have been using Zempt for some time now and find that it works great.

How do you get it to work on w.bloggar or zempt. Neither work for me on WP.
    Are there other interfaces?

How do you get either zempt or w.bloggar to work with WP?

I’ve got w.bloggar configured to work with WP; however, I’m running into some issues when I attempt to edit a post. Though I don’t get any error messages in w.bloggar, the expected changes are not applied to the actual site, instead the post appears with the following error where the category would normally be displayed: Filed under:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-includes/template-functions-category.php on line 65
Is this a known limitation? Is there a workaround for w.bloggar that would allow me to actually edit posts?

I have tried many of the things suggested here, and cannot get any of my desktop apps to work. I’ve tried to set up MarsEdit, MacJournal, Ecto and nothing seems to want to work. I would prefer using MacJournal since I have the free version 2.6. I can’t even seem to get my email posting to work. The problems seem to be linked to the location of the xmlrpc.php file or the blog id. I tried looking into the folder structure using Fetch to find the file path, but that doesn’t resemble anything I’ve seen posted and hasn’t seemed to work anyway. I found the file in the wp-includes folder and it was named wp-xmlrpc.php.
