• Hello. I am currently using WP ver 1.2 (mingus). Last night I reset the auto-increment on my categories. Everything went fine and about an hour later I posted a new entry on my site. When a friend tried to comment on a post he received the following errors after clicking on the “submit” button (The error shows in the wp-comments-post.php file):
Warning: Compilation failed: range out of order in character class at offset 4 in /home/typed/public_html/typo/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1348
The same error continues on for a few more lines. You may view a copy of the entire thing by going to this page:
    https://www.typedby.com/error.php
I thought that it was because of an error I made when editing wp-comments.php or wp-comments-post.php. So I decided to re-install all the Word Press ver 1.2 (mingus) files a few minutes ago. The problem still occurs even when I re-install all the WP files.
The comments will post to the entry but the error page still shows up instead of redirecting the commenter back to the entry. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

  • I’ve not seen that error reported before.
When you reinstalled, did you run ‘install.php’ or ‘upgrade.php’ ?
And if you ran ‘install.php’ what happened about the database ?

I think it’s almost certainly the db.
I don’t know how the db actually works with WP, but in a cross-referenced system, changing some info will almost certainly break it. Can you replace what you previously changed ?

There are people in #wordpress on irc.freenode.net that are better placed than me for this one – I wouldn’t want to screw things up any more for you !

Thanks for the tip. I’ll be sure to drop by later. I’m probably going to get dizzy from trying to figure this out.

Thanks to podz and fargon! When I went onto the #wordpress irc, fargon mentioned that there was a bug in functions.php and he provided me with the fix. He also mentioned that it was a problem with spam words. When I uploaded the new functions.php, I still experienced the error. A minute ago I decided to remove my spam words list from WP and see what happened. I made a test comment on my site and didn’t receive the error. It seems that something on the list of spam words I was using was causing the error.
