• Hi!

All I’m attempting to do is access my dashboard and edit this website. However, I can no longer access it.

Since I can only access the “My Theme” menu of the interface, which only displays that WordPress 4.2.2 is available, I just guessed which version I’m currently using.

Since I can’t paste a screenshot here, all I get when I login is the left sidebar menu: Dashboard, All-in-One SEO, Post, Media, etc. Every menu item I click on From “Dashboard” all the way down, just gives me a blank screen now–except for “My Theme”, which allows me to change some basic settings.

I’m using the Intrepidity theme by Top Blog Formula. I built the website https://www.commercialrealestateloansusa.com a few years ago, but I’ve never updated the WordPress version because they recommend that you backup first, which I’m not quite sure how to do.

I imagine that updating to version 4.2.2 might do the trick, but when I click on “Please Update Now” for the automatic update, I just get the sidebar menu with a completely blank screen.

How can I access the website to edit it? If it’s a matter of updating the WordPress version, since I have no idea how to do that manually, how can I do an automatic update with no dashboard access?

    Thanks!

    Charles

  • It sounds like you have a plugin and or theme conflict. I would work through the following help article:

    https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=wp%20beginner%20disable%20plugins%20phpmyadmin
    https://www.ostraining.com/blog/wordpress/disable-a-wordpress-plugin/

I would recommend connecting to your site via FTP and temporarily changing the plugins folder so that you can temporarily disable your plugins to test.

Thanks Herman for your quick & courteous response & assistance!

What do you mean by “changing the plugins folder”? Is there some sort of menu or do I have to understand some sort of code in order to make that change via FTP?

Whoops, the URL didn’t paste properly.

    https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-wp-admin/

You’ll need to read through the article.

    Thanks,

Enable debugging mode from the wp-config.php then tell us what you will see

When I go to https://commercialrealestateloansusa.com/wp-config.php I just get a blank screen. Am I missing something in the url?

you can reset the plugins by changing the plugins folder name to plugins.hold, refresh, log in again and then change the folder name back. and yes, use ftp to do it.

    Guys (and GirlSpeaksGeek):

This process is really frustrating for a non-techie like me. Here’s the deal:

I haven’t used FTP in quite a while, so when I tried to use FTP to follow your instructions, here’s what I got:

    Status: Resolving address of commercialrealestateloansusa.com
    Status: Connecting to 54.235.246.155:21…
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message…
Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
    Status: Connected
    Status: Retrieving directory listing…
Status: Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead.
Status: Directory listing of “/” successful
    ____________________________________________________________

Although it says “Directory listing successful, The “Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS” and “Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead” seem to be prohibiting me from actually getting a “Welcome Message” in order to actually do anything via FTP.

Although I’ve attempted to dismantle the passive stuff via Settings=> FTP => Passive Mode => Fall Back to Active Mode radio button, and changed to “Only Use Plain FTP” via Site Manager, I still can’t access files via Filezilla. I’ve Googled the issue and get some really technical explanations on how to fix it via something called NAT, which is totally confusing.

All I wanna do is rename the Plugins folder so I can follow the really straightforward instructions that you guys gave me.

Is there any other way to do this other than the seemingly MORE confusing “phpMyAdmin” method?

    Someone also suggested:

“Enable debugging mode from the wp-config.php then tell us what you will see”

But, when I go to https://commercialrealestateloansusa.com/wp-config.php I just get a blank screen. Am I missing something in the url?

    Please lemme know.

    Gratefully & Respectfully Yours…

    Charles
