• I’ve already tried a bunch of different tools and even thought about writing my own solution (since none of them fit all my needs and requirements). But Media Cleaner surprisingly gave me the needed result. Thankfully, I don’t have to reinvent the wheel now ??

“File system” method (available in a Pro version) is extremely helpful for a project with long history, huge ‘/uploads/’ folder and daily content updates by different users. Free version is nice for average users, too.

In my case this plugin had detected up to 3k issues and saved me up to 15% space on prod server (very nice result, gygabytes). And I can now finally manage 1k+ outdated files and exclude all unused items from other file procedures (e.g. backups, mozJPEG compression, resizing, regenerating thumbnails etc). It saves much time.

And I have to admit, that plugin author provides real support. Using this plugin inspired me to translate it into my native language, because I’d like to recommend it to some of my clients. I’ve posted a proposal to make some localization improvements. All my notes have been attentively considered, kindly accepted and implemented in just about a month. Which is absolutely great!

    Some notes for other users:
    — Don’t neglect reading the Manual. The tool is powerful and might require some informed decisions.
    — Enable Media trash in wp-config, this helps a lot.
    — If you suspect to have many outdated files (huge old project, multiple content managers), consider using the Pro version, since there are usually tons of rubbish in a physical filesystem.

    Cheers! ??
