So using hte famous 5-minute install I completed 1-5 without major inceidents, but when I get to “just install and go” I enter the URL of the install-php and get…

    nothing

    a blank pages shows up.

I have tried wp-admin/setup-config.php as well, and it claims that there is a config-file already, and that I can “install now”. If I click the link then I get the blank page again.

    What am I missing?

    Site url?

Where did you upload WordPress to on your domain?

Have you tried re-uploading all files & folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

@cplwordpress: Best to post a new topic. Similar symptoms can have very different causes.

In the download 2.9.2 the wp-config-sample.php does not have a closing tag – putting a closing tag into the wp-config.php file resolved my issue

I will download a fresh file, unpack, fix that tag and upload to the root this time, and see if that does anything. I should report back in 24 hours, and if it does not work then I hope for more advice. Thank you guys so far.
It is just frustrating when you do everything you are meant to, and not even given an error-message to indicate what went wrong.

What tag is missing? I am not good enough to spot where something is actually awry. Hey, that’s why I got this thing, so I wouldn’t have to code. ?? Is it the “?>” missing at the end you mean?

    esmi

    (@esmi)

The final closing ?> doesn’t have to be there in 99% of installs. In fact, it’s deliberately been omitted as far as I know.

Ok, got into the installation this time.
I entered the database-details and on the next page I filled in the “Blog title” and email, and then got
Fatal error: Call to undefined function checked() in /home/lociamco/public_html/wp-admin/install.php on line 74

    What do I do now?

    74 by the way is “<td colspan=”2″><label><input type=”checkbox” name=”blog_public” value=”1″ <?php checked($blog_public); ?> /> <?php _e(‘Allow my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati.’); ?></label></td>”
    Can I modify that somehow?
