    Hello,

    The views tracked by Google Analytics dropped significantly since I installed Complianz.

    I read some treads about this topic and eventually figured out I didn’t check all the three boxes at the end of the “statistics” step, which I understand to be required for declaring that statistics are anonymized.

    Even though I followed the wizard step by step and now I’m 99% sure that everything is on point, the views tracked by GA are still a fraction of what they used to be before using Complianz.
    I’m also sure that this drop is not a coincidence and isn’t and actual decrease in views, since ppc views tracked in Google Ads are the same as always as well as those tracked by other GDPR compliant tracking tools.

    Aren’t IP addresses anonymized by design in GA4?

    Maybe I’m doing something wrong… any idea?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    Could you post the URL so I can have a look?

    You can use the TagBird extension to see if GA is triggered before consent, let me know so I can have a look,

    regards Aert

    Hi @aahulsebos,

    thanks for your kind reply.

    The URL is https://www.itacoilweb.com/

    TagBird shows some cookie notifications like GA, Google Ads Consent and others in grey color before consent, then these first two colored after consent.

    What does that mean?

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    I see you’re adding the code with this comment:

    <!--BEGIN: TRACKING CODE MANAGER BY INTELLYWP.COM IN HEAD//-->

    This code includes an AW-* (Google Ads) tracking code.

    I would suggest removing this code, and adding both to Complianz, under Statistics -> Statistics Configuration.

    This way you can use Analytics anonymously, and Google Ads will fire on Marketing.

    regards Aert

    Hi @aahulsebos,

    Sorry for my late reply, we had a serious connection issue.

    I’m a total noob so I need further clarification.
    I can’t find the code you’re talking about.

    I see we are using the plugin Tracking Code Manager for tracking codes, and the codes are the following:

    <!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
    <script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-27342334-1"></script>
    <script>
      window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
      function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
      gtag('js', new Date());

      gtag('config', 'UA-27342334-1');
      gtag('config', 'AW-1071915430');
      gtag('config', '<GA_MEASUREMENT_ID>', { 'anonymize_ip': true });
    </script>

    <!– Event snippet for Richiesta Contatto EN conversion page –>
    <script>
    gtag(‘event’, ‘conversion’, {‘send_to’: ‘AW-1071915430/AlGYCLq3r4UBEKbDkP8D’});
    </script>

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    You could use a configuration as described below, and remove your current implementation with the Tracking Code Manager upon doing so.

    – Place your UA- and AW- tags in the Complianz Wizard

    (Consent > Statistics > “Yes, with Google Analytics” > Statistics – configuration > “Tracking ID” and “Conversion ID”).

    – Place your event snippet in the Script Center without the <script></script> tags

    (Complianz > Integrations > Script Center > Add a third-party script. Untick the “Enable placeholder” checkbox).

    Hope it helps!
    Kind regards,
    Jarno

    Hi @jarnovos,

    I implemented your suggestions.

    Google Ads is working fine but Analytics has completely stopped tracking.

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    I could not find your Analytics ID in the page source when I checked the site just now.

    Could you verify that your Analytics ID has been added to the Complianz Wizard under Wizard > Consent > Statistics – configuration > Enter your Tracking ID?

    Kind regards,
    Jarno

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    No code yet; at the bottom of your page source you will see the missing codes.

    Hi @aahulsebos,

    I’ll try to explain step by step what I did, so maybe you’ll uderstand what is missing or wrong.

    1) I disable the Analytics tracking code from the plugin I’m currently using;
    2) I copy the tracking code for my website from Google Analytics;
    3) I paste it in the Complianz Wizard (Consent > Statistics > Statistics – configuration > “Tracking ID”) and save
    note: before saving I see that the tracking ID field is filled with the code, but as I save it gets empty… is that normal?

    Kind regards,
    Simone

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    The input of the “Tracking/Conversion ID” fields should persist when you Save your settings.

    So, just to verify: are you using the same values as shown in the attached screenshot below?

    Kind regards,
    Jarno

    Hi @jarnovos,

    I was entering the full tracking code!

    Now I entered the values in your screenshot.
    I’ll let you know, but I’m sure that’s it.

    Thanks.

    Hi @simoneradaelli29,

    Looks like that was it! I just checked the site and both of the tags now fire upon providing consent in the Cookie Banner.

    I’ll mark the thread as resolved, please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards,
    Jarno
