• Great idea and concept, but poor instructions and requires programming experience to operate.

I spent 4+ hours trying to figure out how to use this plugin, what I figured out 2+ hours into exploring this is that you have to modify your WordPress installation’s PHP code to get ACF to work, and even then I couldn’t get it to work properly. This is not a plug and play plugin and requires hiring a full stack web developer to operate.

How it has so many positive reviews is honestly beyond me. I watched a dozen YouTube videos and read all of ACF’s documentation and could not figure it out. Needs a step-by-step instruction manual.

    Hi @a305587

It’s true that ACF requires you to modify your theme’s code, that is it’s intended behavior. Perhaps you expected the plugin to function in a different way to it’s design, and that’s good feedback to have, but it’s a shame to receive a 1 star review.

ACF is a pretty cool plugin aimed at PHP developers. If that’s not for you, that’s cool too.

    Thanks for the response.

Honestly, a set of instructions for non-PHP developers and some example guides for the same type of WP user would go a long way toward helping those of us who are not PHP developers use your plugin.

I appreciate you’ve put a lot of work into it, it’s just extremely frustrating for the time I’ve spent trying to figure it out I’m getting nowhere with it.

    Cheers.

There’s plenty of other resources online, youtube for example has hundreds if not thousands of different demonstrations for all levels.

Whilst you can use this without any prior knowledge for the basics, customising queries etc will make sense with some prior php knowledge. This is one of the best plugins for WordPress and the documentation and community is excellent, there are learning curves for everybody.

It’s frustrating to see these kind of reviews when it’s down to the person not the plugin.

Learn some basic php, you could grasp a wealth of simple php in a short time that will have you working with www.ads-software.com in a whole new perspective. I’ve been there bud, I wish I’d of got stuck into php & javascript at the beginning it woulod have saved lots of time.
