• Hello. I’ve done about 10 hours of research non-stop today trying to figure out how to transfer my local WP site on www.ads-software.com to my live site on wordpress.com All I need is the plugins for my adsense. That’s literally it; And I know that can only be done via www.ads-software.com.

Now, I’ve purchase my domain through wordpress.com
Next, I signed up for a month to month hosting package via Dreamhost.
I got all that set up. I’ve also managed to download Wamp & FileZilla. I’ve got my “www” website files in the FileZilla directory all set up.

Here’s where the frustration kicks in. I’ve watched half a dozen videos on youtube on transferring my local site to the live server, but I always run into complications when I’m suppose to upload my files on the “Cpanel.” Everything goes smooth right up to this point. I can’t seem to access it anywhere. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Am I suppose to be accessing the Cpanel on my Dreamhost account? It’s been very draining and I’m sure the process is easier than I think. I wasn’t going to post a question here until I felt I literally exhausted every and all solutions to fix my problem. If I need to provide more details for anyone that might be able to assist I’d gladly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Erik

www.ads-software.com is self-hosted software. You need a web host to make a site you have built locally go live.

You may be able to use WordPress.com to host your site, however it does not provide you with ftp or mysql access and you are limited to the features included as standard rather being able use custom themes or plugins.

see: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for an outline of the differences between www.ads-software.com and WordPress.com

is your site local or on wordpress.com

Also if you finally decide to go with wordpress.com have in mind that image ads or third party advertising networks are not allowed. For mofr

cubercolour: Yes I know about the web hosting. That’s where I’m lost because I was told to purchase an account at Dreamhost, which I did and I supposedly should have been able to get things set up there.

gazelle101: my site is not local on wordpress.com it’s live.
I just began building my site locally on www.ads-software.com

tsiger: Ah.. That would make a difference as I did not know that. One of my friends has adsense and initially told me he created his site on wordpress, so of course as a newbie I’m going to assume wordpress.com but didn’t realize he meant www.ads-software.com

Thanks to all of you guys for your replies.
So with that being said, any suggestions on where to look or what I can do in terms of getting my local www.ads-software.com site onto my life site?

That’s the issue I’m having. I already paid for my domain on wordpress.com so I’m not exactly sure what to do.

    @op Try this:

    (0) If you have not already done so, on the web site of your Domain Registrar (GoDaddy, WordPress.com?, etc.) change the DNS Servers for your domain name to the 2 DNS servers you were instructed to use by DreamHost, for your hosting account with them. It may take some time for the DNS “Propagation” to be on all DNS servers around the world, but probably it will resolve, very quickly, to your DreamHost account, so that you can proceed with the following.

    (1) In your local WordPress installation, install the “Duplicator” PlugIn.
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/duplicator/

    Then activate the Plugin

    (2) In your DreamHost cpanel, Create a Database with the MySQLDataBase Wizard (it’s one of the icons on the cPanel home page for Databases)

NOTE: Be *very* careful and write down *exactly* what you type into the required spaces for the data base. You must have the details exactly correct for this to work.

    (3) Create a Database user for that database (You may need to use PhpAdmin to do that)

    (4) Go to the cPanel File Manager and navigate to public_html and be sure it is 100% empty. If it is not empty, delete whatever is in it. (select any files you need to delete and then click on the “X”)

    (5) On your local WordPress installation, run “Duplicator” and backup your installation. You will get two (2) files. One is install. php or something like that and the other is everything in your WordPress install, including WordPress, the plugins, etc. Download those files to your local PC (actually they are already there), but download them and be sure you can locate them, because you will need to Upload them to your DreamHost account.

    (6) On cPanel, with the File Manager, navigate to the public_html folder. Click on Upload and Upload the 2 files that are on your local PC that were created by Duplicator into public_html.

    (7) With your web browser, navigate to your_domain_name/public_html/installer.php ( I think that’s the path) and then begin the installation on your Dreamhost site.

If I missed something above, there is good documentation on the web site of the people who created “Duplicator” and in other places on the web.

If you can do this with “Duplicator”, it will be easier and faster for you.

@lannyma thank you so much! The issue was changing the DNS servers on my hosting account from Dreamhost! Now my localsite is live exactly how I needed and wanted it to be.

Thank you so much and also thank everyone else for your help and input.
