Concerning GDPR compliancy – username / account deletion

I’m opening this thread in a follow up to mod request, for my comment here. It’s a concern in general (not a personal issue) about GDPR compliance on www.ads-software.com forums.
Several topics on the matter point out that it’s:
a) not possible to change your username (the bit behind the @)
b) not possible to delete your accountI’ve seen accounts where people sometimes included personal identifiable information in their username. Not being able to remove that piece of information seems in breach to GDPR compliance (ART17).
You might want to look into this and make changes where necessary. Thanks.

Which clearly has a link for data erasure. By clearly I mean you need to read the whole doc. It’s not a bad doc IMHO.

There is a backlog of that but all requests are honored. I think the backlog queue is measured in months but (THANKFULLY!) I’m not involved with that so I am not sure about the length of the backlog.
That data erasure does not mean all of a person’s posts, replies and reviews will be deleted from these forums.
That’s for PII and not what was covered in the first link I posted. It will result in the account being disabled and the display name replaced with something else.
I’m adding that last part as posts, replies and reviews are only edited in extreme cases. Search engine hits are never considered extreme and people trying to use that data erasure process that way are in for a disappointment.
Again, while some may disagree, and I am not assuming you will but you may, GDPR compliance and what people believe that means are frequently two different things.
