Conditional Tags and get_posts

We recently redesigned our WordPress theme as shown here:

We have included an additional ‘get_posts’ bit so that info from the latest post in the ‘Interviews’ category is displayed on every page.

The problem is that now every page seems to think it IS in that category, and as such, Conditional Tags do not work for things targeted to the Interviews category.

For example, I have asked the list of ‘Previous Interviews’ in the column on the right to only display if viewing an interview post, through Conditional tags. But this list displays on every page.

Is there a way to fix this?
