• After reading the WordPress Codex on RSS Feeds, I still don’t know exactly what the URL is that I’m supposed to enter in the field box for the RSS Feed widget. The Codex info is still too much jargon for me; I’m just a mere mortal photographer, not a techie type. It’s the little things like this that keep me from moving forward, and make me want to tear my hair out. I’ve also been trying to change the URL for the blog page within my web site from https://www.biophiliapress.com/page_id=12 to https://www.biophiliapress.com/blog, and of course, without success. If anyone can help me with this – in the most simplified layperson language (for I am, indeed, a simple person) – I would be immensely grateful.

    Regards,
    Michael

You’re supposed to enter the url for a feed belonging to another site. That site’s articles will the be displayed in the widget. Never use the widget to display the feed from your own site. That can cause a feedback loop.

Thank you. So how do I create a feed from my own site? Is there a widget or plugin? I don’t know php and all that other stuff.

WordPress creates an RSS feed automatically from your Posts. If you let us know your site url, we will be able to give you your feed url. ??

I made the mistake of replying to the email this morning. The URL is https:// https://www.biophiliapress.com/page_id=12

Also, I tried to change the last part from /page_id=12 to /blog
    Couldn’t get it to change.

Oh, it’s been one of those days…
I left off the “?” in the URL: https://www.biophiliapress.com/?page_id=12

Thank you very much! I don’t mean to be so stupid, but how do I get this to appear in the sidebar on my blog page? I’ve looked at widgets and plugins, and everything appears to be for RSS feeds to other sites. I don’t see anything in the Dashboard, and I’ve really made an effort to understand all this. How do I activate, set, configure or whatever I’m supposed to do to make it work? If I didn’t know what the URL was for the RSS feed, how would anyone visiting my site know? When I clicked on the link you gave me, I wondered why I was so totally unaware of its existence. I could find nothing to lead me to it.
Again, thank you very much for your kind assistance.

    Michael

It’s already working. You don’t need to do anything. If you want to display links to the feeds that WordPress creates, try adding the Meta widget to your sidebar.

I have that widget in the sidebar but have no idea what to do with it. When I click on the dropdown arrowhead, all it shows is a field box asking for a title. I don’t know what to call it because I don’t know what it’s for (what purpose its serves). The descriptions for the widgets are extremely scant. PLEASE elaborate. Thank you.

    Site url?

    Thread Starter Michael Tavalin

    (@michael-tavalin)

I cannot see any Meta widget on your site.

There’s no dropdown there. You just need to click on the Entries RSS link or copy the link into your preferred RSS reader.

The dropdown is in the widgets panel where you select which widgets to drag to the sidebar.
I know that it may seem incredulous, but I’ve never seen RSS feeds and therefore, don’t have a preferred RSS reader. Any suggestions as to which ones to consider and where to find them would be greatly appreciated. I’ll be the first to admit I’m a dinosaur (I think 60 years old qualifies for that designation). Thank you.

    Michael
