I’ve been using WPSC for a while and I think it’s a great plugin. I can only imagine how much money this plugin has saved in hosting costs to thousands of bloggers worldwide. Anyways.

I have a very high traffic site that gets about 50,000/day and about 100,000 page views/day… and growing… The blog has over 3,500 posts and 30,000 comments. For info, you can see this blog here https://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/

As the site grew, I went from shared hosting to a private server with DreamHost, which is working well for me so far.

Today I tried to fine tune my configuration of WPSC and, as a non-technical person, I was kind of overwhelmed by the description and the meaning of each option.

I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me what’s best for me, while making sure the site still works as it should (ie. showing up-to-date posts when posts are updated or commented on).

    1. WP SUper Cache Status

WPSC is fully on. Additionally, I have the Cache Rebuild and Mobile Support options turned on.

Should I also turn on “Only refresh current page when comments made”? What are the benefits and downside of this option?

Anything else I should do under this section?

    2. Preload Cache

I have read the description of this option several times and I still don’t understand whether it’s good for me or not. Currently, “preload cache” is OFF. Should I turn it on? If so, and considering I have over 3,500 (and 5-6 more added each day), should I just choose to load a fraction of this number?

Should I turn “preload mode” on? Again, I read the description but can’t figure out if it’s good for me or not.

    3. Super Cache Compression

It’s currently OFF. Should I turn this ON? What are the benefits of it? What are the downsides?

    4. Expiry Time & Garbage Collection

It’s currently set at 1800 seconds. I read that busy sites should have this around 300 seconds. Wouldn’t it make the site slower to constantly clear the cache and renew it every 5 minutes?

    Conclusion

I know it’s a lot of questions but I tried to make it as clear as possible. Thank you in advance for any help you can give about this matter.

  • 1. “Only refresh current page when comments made” will stop the homepage being refreshed when comments are made.
    2. Turn on “Preload mode”. Preload as many pages as you want. I’d do the whole lot and set a refresh time of 2 days or so.
    3. Turn it on, your pages will be delivered faster.
    4. It only clears out old (garbage) cache files, not every single one. In this case old is defined as anything over 1800 seconds. If you have preload mode on then supercache files won’t be affected.

    Thank you ??

BTW I donated by sending a book from your Amazon wishlist yesterday. You should receive it in the next couple weeks I think.

Thanks! That “Yield” sign on the front cover is my photo ??

I’m still not sure about something… By turning preload mode and super cache compression ON, do comments show up as soon as they are posted? If I make a post update, will this update show on the blog right away? Thank you.

Yeah, the post will update immediately. The only time it wouldn’t update is when you have your blog “locked down” or the page is “directly cached”.

I’ve just turned on Super Cache (great plugin BTW) just one problem approving comments and editing posts does not seem to update the cached page. Is this right? If not is there a fix? locked down is disabled.
