    Hi there

I have begun receiving some mailing list sign-ups but half of those choosing to subscribe are not receiving their confirmation emails?

Any idea why this might be happening?

    Many thanks,

    Jerry.

    Hi there @jerrystampfer ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Are you sure they are not receiving the confirmation email? It could be that they are simply not confirming (which is common) or the email is landing somewhere other than their inbox (spam folder, Gmail social tabs, etc).

    Many thanks for your response.

One of them is my next door neighbour and friend. He has checked his spam and it’s not there. It’s a gmail address.

Half of those subscribing are sitting in “unconfirmed”.

I have just tried signing up myself using a spare email address (gmail) – once using a pop-up and once with a static form. In the former case it just disappeared and in the latter it said “thank you..etc” but in neither case did I receive a confirmation email.

The second one (from the pop-up form, I believe) has just appear in the “unconfirmed” list. But no email.

My static form is on this page: https://writewithjerry.com/membership-join/

The pop-up should be self-evident at any page in https://writewithjerry.com/

    Many thanks

    Hi there @jerrystampfer,

Thanks for giving more details about the issue you are experiencing. I tested myself now and it all seems right. There is an intermediary step that you didn’t mention – once you add your email address and name to the form and click submit you should be redirected to the Captcha page to confirm you are not a robot. That seems to be working on your website (check this screenshot). After typing the letters and clicking “Sign me up” I received the confirmation email (check it here).

Finally, I was redirected to a page that confirms I’m subscribed (Check this image).

So, based on your description, it looks like the Captcha step was skipped on your end, hence the confirmation is not being triggered. Can you confirm if you saw the Captcha page at some point?

Hi again – thank you for doing that.

After I sent my last message here I changed the form on the “join us” page because I had been using a WP form and I wondered if that was the problem. Once I changed to a Mailpoet form and tested again I did get the Captcha page and then the confirmation email.

However, when using the pop-up form it just disappears after clicking on the “sign me up” button – no redirect to the Captcha page and no confirmation email. I tried again and I still didn’t get the Captcha page, although I did get the confirmation email.

I actually don’t like the redirect to the Chaptcha page – it’s not in my style and it seems over the top when you are asking them to confirm with a clickable email. Can I turn that off? I don’t see the option anywhere. It seems strange that the redirect is there with a static form but not with the pop-up.

Are the confirmation pages and the Captcha page editable?

Thank you for your help with this. Nearly there.

Ok – I have found the “disable Captcha”.

I’m not convinced that everyone has received a confirmation email, though.

For my neighbour’s subscription I have re-sent the confirmation email and he still has not received it. I have also resent (two days ago) to all the others in the “unconfirmed” list and none has yet confirmed.

    Hi there!

I’m glad to hear we are having some progress. But, of course, we need to ensure that both “Confirmation Emails” are being sent and your forms are protected by Captcha to avoid fake signups.

I understand you don’t like the redirect approach. In this case, you can set up Google reCAPTCHA V2. We support both “I’m not a robot” tickbox” and “Invisible reCAPTCHA badge”. You can check the setup instructions here.

Once that’s done, if you continue to have issues with confirmation emails delivery, please reach out to us via https://www.mailpoet.com/support/sales-pre-sales-questions/ and include the addresses that have not received the confirmation as well as a link to this thread.

We’ll be able to provide you with more information there.

    Cheers!

Thank you again. I have made the change to the recaptcha and that, for me, is a better solution. However, It has made my forms look a little clunky now, with the square box. Can I change that to a rectangle?
