I am using Cozmoslabs for member management and I was happy to find the sdc plug-in to show downloads for our journal articles. It’s working great; however, now members are getting this error on the profile page and can’t update or create profiles.

    Failed to initialize plugin: sdc_download

    Can you suggest anything?

    Thanks, Cheryl

Interesting, thanks for reporting. In order to help, I need the basic steps to repeat the issue on default WP. That way I can investigate and try to resolve any issue asap.

Hi Jeff, I am seeing it iYou will see it if you register as a site user and try to update your profile. Discount code=Alternative (100%).

I believe that the issue is happening, but in order to actually investigate and resolve, I need to be able to examine the code while the error is happening. It’s kind of like a car mechanic, they actually have to have a car to work on, not just shown a picture of one.

What can I provide so you can do that?

Can you examine the code by registering?

In order to troubleshoot code, it is necessary to have access to the code itself. Otherwise there is no way to investigate what is happening “under the hood” and make changes to resolve the issue.

Another way of saying it is, “in order to help, I need the basic steps to repeat the issue on default WordPress.” So that would look something like:

    1. Install WordPress
    2. Install/activate only SDC plugin
    3. Visit the such and such page
    4. Perform some action, etc.
    5. Until the issue happens

Something along those lines would enable me to follow along and try to resolve any error asap.

Hi Cheryl, just wanted to follow up with this. It’s been a while with no reply, so I hope the issue is resolved? Or if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for checking in. I am not full-time on web dev so there are lags when other priorities take over. The issue persists and is confusing members when they try to update their profiles, so I need to fix it. However, the download counter is working great and I really want to keep it. Please have a look at this PDF and you will see the error message that comes up.

What else can I provide? Would site access help? I could set you up with an account.

I’ve also reached out to Cozmoslabs to see if there’s anything that can be done there.

    Regards, Cheryl

Thanks for the screenshots. The one that shows the error suggests that the issue is with a plugin named something like “addfunc-head-footer-code” or similar. I do not see SDC (this plugin) implicated anywhere.

    Then for this:

    “What else can I provide?”

I guess what I am saying is that, “in order to help, I need the basic steps to repeat the issue on default WordPress.” So that would look something like:

    1. Install WordPress
    2. Install/activate only SDC plugin
    3. Visit the such and such page

Something along those lines would enable me to follow along and try to resolve any error asap.

Otherwise, without being able to repeat the error, there is not much I can do to help.

Hey Cheryl, I hope you got this sorted. It’s been a while with no reply so gonna go ahead and mark this thread as resolved to help keep the forum organized. Feel free to post again with any further questions or feedback, Thank you.

Thanks for the quick and helpful feedback, Jeff. I will follow up by trying to figure out what plug-in that might be. The error showed up right after I installed SDC; I thought that must be it, and I really appreciate that you’ve eliminated SDC. It’s a minor issue on the site, and I carry a lot of tasks (as a volunteer), and I apologise that my responses are delayed. We are a fringe academic community, publishing quite a bit of material using WordPress, and your plug-in is a great way to track the PDF downloads, which is a number that matters to academics for the prof dev reporting.
