Conflict with currency switcher
-
Hi there,
We are succesfully using the currency switcher. Only the gift card isnt working correcty in the card. When you select an amount, for example 10 euro, and add it to the cart it shows 0 euro.
Product:
Our checkout is only in EUR (handled by a custom filter from Aelia).Hope you can help! Answer Aelia:
Hi Laura,
Out of the box, the Currency Switcher can handle simple, variable, grouped and external products. Gift cards are a custom product type, which must be passed to the currency conversion functions by the plugin that introduces it (i.e. the gift cards plugin must support multi-currency environments).Based on the information we could gather, your site seems to be running the YITH Gift Cards plugin. That plugin should include native support for our Currency Switcher, to ensure that the card amounts are converted correctly and that the balance is updated when the card is used, partially or in full.
From our side, we would recommend to check that the currencies are configured correctly. Every currency must have a valid exchange rate, greater than zero, with the decimal point (i.e. “123.45”). Values with a comma, such as “123,45” might not work correctly. The best way to ensure that the rates are correct is to let the plugin update them automatically. We recommend using Open Exchange Rates as the provider, it’s the most robust.
If the exchange rates are correct, but the conversion of gift card amounts doesn’t seem to work, the best point of contact would be the YITH Team. They wrote the integration themselves, and they will know how the Gift Cards plugin “talks” to the Currency Switcher. Due to that, they will be able to check where the prices are loaded, and why they might be returned as zero. The YITH Team also has our direct contact details, in case they have any questions for us, to address the glitch more quickly.
