Just as the Title says: version 1.14.0 of EU VAT Compliance has a direct conflict with Woocommerce version 3.9.1. I’ve deactivated this plugin until an update is available.

I think it has to do with the new MaxMind geolocation system that WC is using.

But, now that I’ve been forced to look at this plugin in detail for the first time in 2 years since creating the web store, I’m wondering if I still need it. I’m only using the free version so is there something that this plugin is still doing that core WC is *NOT* doing?

It seems to me that WC Core now has the ability to calculate VAT based on billing address and/or geolocate. So what more do I need?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi,

Good afternoon! There is no incompatibility with WooCommerce 3.9; however, because you’re not the first person to misunderstand what a deprecation warning is (it’s a coding notice advising of changes needed in future for compatibility with *future* versions of WooCommerce), I’ve made a new release that deals with it.

To understand what the plugin adds to WooCommerce core (it doesn’t contain *any* features that are simply duplicating existing features), please see the plugin description and especially the feature list at:

Thank you for the plugin update, but I don’t know how you can say there was no conflict when I literally spent 2 hours staging my site, turning off themes, and reactivating plugins 1-by-1 because the live site was completely crashed EXCEPT when I deactivated your plugin.

And yes, I’ve also read the plugin description several times before posting that last night. However, even with that list of features, I still don’t know what I’m actually using it for. So, sure, I understand it’s not your job to educate every single user of your plugin, but I don’t understand what legal compliance your plugin is giving me that I’m missing out on without it.

    Hi,

Since you’re evidently not referring to the deprecation log notice that I was talking about, please do provide details of the symptoms you experienced – i.e. specific error messages and logs. We’ve not had any other reports of problems from WC 3.9 users, so there’s no currently known general problem that I am able to talk about.

The best people to ask about what specific legal compliance *your* business needs, are your company lawyer and accountant. The plugin front page can list what this plugin *provides*, but you will understand that a free plugin author cannot give you legal or accountancy advice on what your specific business practices require.

    David
