• I have a client that uses the Newsletter plugin (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/newsletter/) and something happened recently to cause a conflict between Admin Menu Editor and the Newsletter plugin.

When the Admin Menu Editor plugin is active, the following sub-menus disappear from the Newsletter menu in the dashboard:

    Welcome
    Subscription steps
    Subscription form
    Newsletters
    Subscribers
    Statistics

My first thought was that maybe someone went and hid the menu items, but I checked and they aren’t hidden and the user level is set to editor. When I deactivate the Admin Menu Editor the menu items re-appear.

Any thoughts on how to make them play well together?

    Thanks!

When you say the “user level” is set to editor, do you mean that the required capability field is set to “Editor”? That would hide the menu items from everyone except the Editor role. Try changing the required capability back to the default setting – “manage_options”. That should make the menus visible to Administrator.

If the client wants to give the Editor role access to the Newsletter plugin, unfortunately they won’t be able to do that with the free version of AME. They’ll need to either grant the Editor role the “manage_options” capability (you can do that with User Role Editor) or use the Pro version of AME to enable the menu for Editors.

Note: User levels were deprecated more than 4 years ago and no modern plugins use them any more.

My apologies for not getting the jargon just right – yet, I meant the required capabilities was set to Editor.

When I set it to manage_options it doesn’t change anything – the menu items are still missing. As I stated earlier, it’s not that there is anything wrong with the user capabilities, permissions or anything else. The user capabilities were working just fine. I’m logged in as admin and the menu items are still gone.

Of course, there’s always the chance that I’m an idiot, and you’re absolutely right. It wasn’t the main Newsletter menu item that was set incorrectly – it was the sub-menu items that had the wrong required capability.

All is well – my apologies.

No problem, let me know if you have any other questions.
