Conflicts with Other Security Plugins

    Glad SiteGround is now offering a website security plugin.

    We need to know, however, the impact this plugin will have on clients using iThemes Security or WordFence (Free and Pro versions). Several SG clients have already reported issues after deleting above plugins and activating SiteGround Security.

    Specifically:

    (1) Has SG tested SiteGround Security in conjunction with other, major security plugins activated? If yes, what was the outcome?

    (2) At this point, other security plugins offer many more features than SiteGround Security. If we activate SiteGround Security and leave another, well-known security plugin activated, will SiteGround Security automatically detect and deactivate common features or settings to prevent conflicts, issues, or crashes?

  • I migrated from WordFence to SG Security on all my sites and couldn’t be happier! :).

    Did you mean to say “SiteGround Security”?

    How are you handling WordFence features not yet available with SiteGround Security?

    Yeah, my bad! I meant SG Security, indeed. I just edited the post.

    About the features, I just don’t need them anymore.

    Moreover, I noticed a nice overall improvement speed of my site, specially the backend. I always use the Query Monitor Plugin, and since I moved to SG Security it doesn’t show slow queries at all. Even the DB, now it’s 21 tables lighter. ??

    No worries ?? Thanks for the info.

    We use iThemes Security Pro. It adds 11 tables to our database, not bad.

    In our case, there are many features in iThemes Security (Free and Pro) that are not available (yet) with SG Security. For example, Malware Scanning and Detection.

    We’ll wait a bit for SG Security to “mature” before we install and activate it.

    Oh, you are absolutely right! I use the SiteGround Site Scanner service for that. They partnered with Sucuri. It works great. It’s a paid service, though.

    1. Yes we have tested with other plugins. It’s part of our development process for every plugin ??

    2. I just don’t recommend using other plugins. Simple as that. We can’t guarantee that overnight another plugin won’t relase an update that will break someting. Or a combination of options we haven’t thought of. We are working hard to make the SiteGround Security plugin better than all the others and have all the features you may need.

    (2) As soon as SG Security introduces most features found in iThemes Security Pro, we’ll definitely use only SG Security. Hurry! ??

    We’ve deleted iThemes Security Pro and are now using SG Security. Couldn’t be happier.
