    Hi

I use the User Registration Plugin to approve user registrations for a MemberPress website. We noticed that the User Registration form was not working correctly. When the ‘submit application’ button was pressed it just had a spinning circle beside it and no ‘success’ message. In fact, the form did submit and the user registration was shown in the back end but no notification emails to either the user or admin were sent about it.

I disabled all plugins except User Registration and re-enabled them one by one. The problem was only again experienced when WP Mail SMTP was enabled and the form worked again when I disabled WP Mail SMTP.

I understand WP Mail SMTP is recommended by MemberPress and so would like to resolve the issue so that I can re-enable the Plugin.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

    Tina

    Hi @tinagfx

Thanks for reaching out to us and we’re sorry to hear that you seem to be experiencing a conflict with WP Mail SMTP.

    For reference purposes:

    • What mailer are you using?
    • Does this issue occur with other mailers as well?
    • Are you using constants to configure WP Mail SMTP? If yes, please ensure that you followed the instructions outlined here.
    • Are you seeing any specific error messages when WP Debug Logging is enabled?

Please let us know so that we can look into this further.

    Hi

I presume I am using PHP Mailer.
I don’t know how to use another mailer.
    I did not configure restraints.
I used WP Debugger. I can send you the few lines that were logged when I re-tested (it failed again as before) but I don’t think that they tell me much.

    Thanks

    Hi @tinagfx

Thank you for getting back to us.

    • The PHP mailer is the default WordPress setting, meaning it would have been as if WP Mail SMTP was not enabled.
    • We have documentation with step by step instructions for setting up all of our mailers here. As a start you can look into setting up the Google, Sendinblue or Other SMTP mailers because they are free (Sendinblue has a free tier).
    • Thank you for confirming.
    • Please share them.
    • Also, as a test can you check to see if you run into the same error if you enable a different SMTP plugin as well? For example Easy WP SMTP?

    Hi Dake

    • I will try another SMTP plugin as a test.
    • Can you give me a link where I can upload the few relevant lines from the debugger?
    • Just to mention something that may be relevant: This site was moved to different hosting system (within the same hosting company) recently but the email function was left with the original hosting package. I am wondering if this might be causing an issue? I can’t see what settings are set in the WP Mail SMTP plugin without activating it which I don’t want to do as it may cause problems for active users at that time.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi @tinagfx

Thank you for keeping me posted.

    • Have you gotten a chance to test the Easy WP SMTP plugin as yet?
    • We don’t have a secret link or private location for sharing information on the public www.ads-software.com forum, so we’d honestly just recommend sending the lines here, but be sure to strip anything you wouldn’t want to be public. For example, if your email address or website is included you can just replace them with “removed”, “redacted” etc.
    • Does your website host offer staging websites? If yes, you could create a clone of your website that you would be able to perform troubleshooting steps on.

    Please keep me posted.
