Conflicts with BackupBuddy
-
This plugin conflicts with BackupBuddy, making it hidden in the menu and unavailable to edit. I think this is a newish development though as it’s worked in the past.

Hi @redkite
Hope you are doing good.
Seems like it’s a plugin conflict, can you please share the Diagnostic test report of Post SMTP?
Thanks
Yes, iThemes said it’s a known conflict. This is what they said:
“The Post SMTP plugin is using the ‘extra_plugin_headers’ to add support for a ‘Slug’ plugin header. Apparently that interacts with BackupBuddy in such a way that it blanks the BackupBuddy slug.”
I’m using a different plugin now for SMTP.
@redkite Let me talk to my technical team and reproduce this issue on my test websites, will get back to you soon with updates.
Thanks
Any news on the issues with BackupBuddy and Post SMTP when combined?
I am having the same problem as @haseeb0001 on many of my sites. Sometimes the backupBuddy menu disappears,sometimes a fatal error is thrown.
Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: call_user_func(): Argument #1 ($callback) must be a valid callback, class "pb_" not found in /homepages/xxx/wp-content/plugins/backupbuddy/pluginbuddy/_pluginbuddy.php:1380 Stack trace: #0 /homepages/xxx/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(307): pb_backupbuddy::init_register_admin_menu('') #1 /homepages/xxx/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php(331): WP_Hook->apply_filters(NULL, Array) #2 /homepages/xxx/wp-includes/plugin.php(476): WP_Hook->do_action(Array) #3 /homepages/xxx/wp-admin/includes/menu.php(155): do_action('admin_menu', '') #4 /homepages/xxx/wp-admin/menu.php(394): require_once('/homepages/') #5 /homepages/xxx/wp-admin/admin.php(158): require('/homepages...') #6 {main} thrown in /homepages/xxx/wp-content/plugins/backupbuddy/pluginbuddy/_pluginbuddy.php on line 1380
Many problems with the combination of those two plugins in particular. I already wrote to BackupBuddy support… will have to remove one of them soon when hosts start forcing PHP8… Hope you two teams can fix those issues soon!
Thanks for the great plugin, I would hate to have to remove it!

@netzmaedchen Hi,
We have fixed this issue in our Beta version and you can download the Beta version from here.
Thanks
Thank you @haseeb0001 . Will that Beta version update to the next version? Or do I have to manually exchange them?
yes, we will update this in our upcoming release so you don’t need to manually update in the future.
Thanks
That helps! Thank you very much!
@haseeb0001 I’ve been experiencing similar errors to the ones above, but also a new one that is very perplexing.
I have recently set up a new BackupBuddy schedule on a site. It’s running successfully, as the backup file is going to AWS, and can be unzipped so it’s not corrupted – but the notification email that’s being sent to me is garbage – see this link for a screenshot of what I’m receiving : https://app.screencast.com/kGc9D0aPOZ5wc
As soon as I deactivate “Post SMTP” then everything works perfectly, including the notification email. I raised this with iThemes and got this response:
“It may be a new issue caused by their plugin, but in the past there was an issue due to their plugin using the'extra_plugin_headers'
to add support for a ‘Slug’ plugin header. Apparently that interacts with BackupBuddy in such a way that it blanks the BackupBuddy slug. ? “I am running the latest versions of both plugins.
Please can you look into this as I don’t want to have to change SMTP plugins.
many thanks,
Tracey@haseeb0001 where do I find the SMTP diagnostic test report? Is this the same as the session transcript, or the details of the email sent?
thanks…
@traceyrissik You can get Diagnostic test report from Post SMTP Dashboard for more details see screenshot here.
@haseeb0001 thanks for that ??
Here is the result; it’s for another site as the one which I referred to back in December actually removed the SMTP plugin as it was causing a clash with BackupBuddy. But the same problem is occurring on this new site.
- when the SMTP plugin is no active, the emails are fine
- when it’s active they are corrupted.
