Conflicts with existing comments

Thought it worked great, until, like other users (reviews of which I saw only when I came to gripe about the same problem), the plug-in hid all my existing comments. Left a name and date only, with no text or links. I saw others complained of this issue many months ago, and clearly nothing has been done about it. As soon as I disabled and deleted the plug in, the comments came back. Found another plug in which didn’t pull these shenanigans, so they do exist.
