    Hi,

I’ve been trying all night to get this working and I feel I now need to ask for some help.

I’ve unziped and uploaded WordPress 3.2.1 to my webspace.

I’m currently able to load the following webpage:
    https://www.elliottlock.co.uk/blog/readme.html

But when I attempt to run the “wp-admin/install.php” I get the following error:

    500 – Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

Could someone please help explain why I might be getting this?

    Cheers,

    EL

Hi, it refers to the (chmod) i mean there is an option at cpanel>file manger> change permissions, change it 755.

There is a great article you may read for more information: the Reseller Host help thanks

check your htaccess on root folder.
    rename .htaccess to -.htaccess.
    then retry to install

500 errors are generic in nature, so they dont give you specifics. You can either look at your error logs for the server to determine the exact nature of the error.

Typically, when I see 500 errors during installations it’s related to either file permissions set incorrectly or file ownership. I would start by verifying that all the files have the correct file permissions.

Okay one of two things appear to have fixed this issue.

Firstly I changed my server OS from Windows 2008 to Apache 2.2. This seemed to get me a stage further where my database could be found but not accessed.

The next stage was a simple typo and I now have WordPress running.

It appears that WordPress does not like Windows 2008 server.

Apache is not an OS. Apache is a web server. You can run apache on IIS. To run WordPress on a windows box you need WAMP. Here’s a guide to installing WordPress on Windows Server 2008.

It’s the OS of the server, no?

    Additionally where’s this guide?

    Cheers,

Sorry, the link didn’t come through:

    https://blog.rackwire.com/2009/12/installing-wordpress-on-windows-server-2008-php-mysql/

Apache is a webserver that can be used on various operating systems. The operating system could be windows, linux, etc. and still use apache as the web server.

    I hope this helps!

Ar okies. Well It’s running a linux OS in that case. Thanks for your help.

The important thing, is you got it working. I’m glad to hear that. If you have further questions, that’s what the forums are for!
