• I am using Godaddy as my hosting provider. I have already installed WordPress there.

To edit my site or maintain anywhere online or offline I need to have WP downloaded onto my computer. Correct ?

If so, how do I do it ? I really don’t understand what my next step needs to be or if Godaddy has some automated thing, meaning I wouldn’t need WP on my computer.

Please advise. This is my first foray into WordPress.

  • Unless you are wanting to do a lot of work on a theme (such as making one of your own) and/or to get your site filled with content before “going live”, as they say, then no, you do not need a WordPress installation on your computer in order to edit your site or maintain it. What you might need, however, is something such as FileZilla installed on your computer so you can work with certain folders and/or files at your site (via FTP over the internet) just like you already do with folders and files on your local machine (computer). And to be safest while using FTP, you really should set your server access up as an SFTP connection (if you host makes that available, and they should, and they should help you do that) so you will not be sending your server-account credentials out in an easily-readable format.
