Confusion about icons

    I am migrating my current site (www.effectivechinese.net) to customizr, and I am having trouble with the first step. Under “Logo and Favicon”,　there are three types of logos: Logo, Sticky Logo, and Site Icon. Sticky Logo, goes on the sticky header, but what is a “site icon”? Is it actually the “favicon”. If so, why does it have to be “at least 512px wide and tall”, why doesn’t it have to be a .ico and why not just call it “favicon”?
