Congratulations message not appearing

How can I notify users when they’ve been awarded a badge?

I set up a simple badge to test things out. Comment on a specific post and you’re awarded the badge. When I comment on the post, it appears that nothing happens. Shouldn’t I be redirected to a page with the congratulations text? Or at least shouldn’t the congratulations text show up somewhere?? Looking at my profile I have been awarded the badge but nothing tells me that it was awarded.
