Regardless of what I want to upload, from themes to media, my site goes to ‘Connection Information’ and asks for Hostname, Username and Password. Everything I’ve tried including my web host site and my ftp site will not work. So I have a WP site but I am stuck. Any thoughts?

You need your FTP connection details: ftp host, ftp username and ftp password.

I’ve tried with the ftp info (I’m hosting with Network Solutions so that’s the info I use) and it just comes back as “can’t connect using the ftp info”. I can connect using the exact same info via Fetch and Dreamweaver. Why not WordPress???

    Try this:

    https://www.kgarner.com/blog/archives/2009/06/13/direct-auto-update-on-wordpress-2-8/

It solved my issue. I am hosting on my own server, but it seems to work for everybody.

I have the same problem. I have entered the same info as i do normally with file zila.. host name user and password. but it comes back with error or user name and password is not correct

    plz help me

    Folks,
Can someone explain why such credentials are needed ? Seems like a potential security hole to me – especially when some hosters don’t differentiate between shell access credentials and ftp/sftp.
    Thanks
    Trib
