    Hello+
I am experiencing this “connection lost” issue every time I “update” and/or “preview” a page. I have researched this problem in www.ads-software.com and found many threads; unfortunately, all are over 2 years old. Those threads suggested:

    1. deactivate all plugins – back then, they stated this only proved the plugins were not the cause of the issue.
    2. switch to twentyfifteen theme – back then, they stated this only proved the theme was not the cause of the issue.
    3. roll back to an earlier version of WordPress – this was a temporary fix 2 years ago.
    4. add .htpsswrd file to .htaccess – 2 years ago this turned out to be a temporary fix (and I’m not sure how to do this).
    5. download .htaccess file from host and upload via FTP – I don’t see how downloading this file from your host cPanel is any different than the file with the same name you get via FTP; and it was a temporary fix back then.
    6. ask host to whitelist your IP address – seems 2 years ago GoDaddy had “too strict” security settings and that might have been the cause; but, this was only a temporary fix.
    7. switch hosting – seems 2 yrs ago GoDaddy was switching their Apache versions and that might have been the cause; these threads only talked about GoDaddy, so I’m not clear if any other host providers are a problem.
    8. talk to your ISP Provier – this thread indicated that their ISP Provider was not helpful. If I need to do this, then please let me know what specific information I should provide them (and how to get it) and if there are any keywords that I could use when speaking to them to get them to assist.

I don’t think that the 2 year old “solutions” even apply today as WordPress has gone through many Updates…

Each suggestion above did not resolve the issue, except the switch hosting. But, that seemed to be a temporary fix as well. I really don’t want to go through switching host providers just to have it turn up again… But I will if there is a host provider out there that provides a permanent fix!

I’m wondering if anyone has any other suggestions to fix this (that actually work permanently)?

Any guidance/advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Just for some background, how long has this been going on for you?

Also while it’s good that you listed all of the steps above from those old topics, which ones have you tried?

The connection lost error message lost has happened to me in the past but that was because I broke my php5-fpm setup. The Update page was taking longer than my PHP was permitting. That could be the case here. Have you spoken with your host? A connection lost message may show up in your web server’s error_log file.

    Hello+

Thank you, @jan, for the quick response!

It is only happening on one of our WordPress sites. It started when we updated to the new WordPress version. However, we have other sites that are on the new WordPress Version (and same hosting provider as this one) that are not experiencing it. Since I’m not experiencing this issue on the other sites, and all of the old threads indicated that each of the suggested solutions did not permanently fix the problem, I have not tried any of them. I find it a waste of time to try things that didn’t work for others…

Just today I did log into this site’s cPanel and switch the Max Execution Time from 60 to 300, the Post Max Size & Upload Max File Size both from 64 to 128. But, no change with this issue after I did that…

I’ve thought about changing the PHP from 5.4 t 5.6 via cPanel options, but am not sure if that is the proper direction.

I have not spoken with my host provider yet, as I’m not certain what details and/or logs to provide to them and I want to have all of it ready prior to that call.

Just thought I’d ask here if anyone else has anything new to suggest…?

    Thanks!

Before changing PHP (though 5.6 really is a good one to use as 5.4 is end of support…) I suggest you ask your host provider if the log says anything.

That other site that does not have the problem, is that on the same web server?

They both have the same hosting provider and the same hosting package. I’m not sure if they are on the “same” web server…?

I will call the host provider – which “log” should I reference?

    Thank you.
