• I’m having an issue with my new WordPress installation. Whenever I make a post, upon clicking the “Save As Draft” button or “Publish” button, the connection hangs for a bit, then a I get a connection dropped/reset error and the post does not Publish. When I go back to the main Post Admin area though, the post is listed in Draft form, but sometimes is missing the things I did most recently (maybe a result of an autosave?). Using the Quick-Edit option I can make publish the posts.

I’m thinking the timeout error may be a server thing, but I would like to troubleshoot it more. Any suggestions on how to narrow down the issue?

  • Wow! 8 months and this is the first reply!

Sorry to hear that you are having these annoying problems compuguru. I am experiencing the exact same thing and have spent days searching these fora for a relevant fix.

So far, nothing suggested has resolved it.

Having said that, I did add a php.ini file increasing the memory to 256 and for a short while after, things seemed to fine. However, I still haven’t finished the post I wanted to publish.

I have discovered something odd though. I can create, edit and publish small posts and pages of a several words but any larger and it hangs.

Here’s hoping for a resolution as this is happening on dozens of client sites and if will be a matter of hours until the phone goes.

In my case, I had (what I thought to be) this problem – but only when clicking on the ‘safe draft’ or ‘publish’ buttons when creating a new post. Other HTTP Post requests worked fine.

Solution – in my case, disable suhosin.

Environment complicated by Varnish, which seemed to just show the backend randomly closing the connection for no obvious reason (and the request wasn’t being logged in the Apache access log).
