Contact Form 7 has quit working

  • My install of contact form 7 is no longer working; all submissions yield the red bordered “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact administrator by other way.” The email address that received submissions is working, and sending email from the site via a regular email link does work. I have followed advice in the forums and installed WP-Mail-SMTP and configured that and Contact form 7 with the settings recommended in the FAQs but still get the same error message. I don’t know what else to try, especially since it worked earlier and I have not done any updates or changed any settings.

  • Are you using a cache plugin such as WP Super Cache?

    Out of curiosity, did you download/activate Jetpack recently? That can lead to conflicts with this plugin.

    yes, Jetpack was installed about the same time, and didn’t interfere with Contact form; I saw a notice about that and have deactivated Jetpack’s contact feature, to no avail.

    I see. So, to clarify, you have disabled the contact form module in Jetpack, correct? Did you add any other plugins around that time? Or update your plugins/WordPress?

    It could be a conflict elsewhere. I’d try deactivating all your plugins (except CF7) and try to send an email. If that clears it up, you can then reactivate your plugins one at a time (testing in-between) until you locate the offending plugin.

    Also, it may be easier to find a replacement to power your contact forms instead. Possibly the one that ships with Jetpack, for example, which is very reliable.

    I like Contact Form 7, and use it on many client sites without issue, but on the rare occasion when it is not working for me, I just use something else instead. It’s usually easier than burning hours on finding a solution.

    If you are caching pages, then add the page your form is on to the list of pages not to cache…
