Hi. Looking for some guidance. Attempting to stop the bots hitting Contact Form 7, I am running Akismet Anti-Spam and have a recaptcha field. I’ve installed and activated Contact Form 7 Honeypot successfully on my WordPress 4.9.4 site. What i’m not seeing is the Generate Tag Button for the Honeypot plugin, so, the Honeypot tool doesn’t seem to be available. I’ve added a hidden field manually, but, doesn’t seem to do anything since the plugin doesn’t seem to be fully working, or at all. Not sure where to look next, as there wasn’t an error during the install.

Please let me know what you think.
    Thanks.

Strange, the honeypot field is present on that form. Are you sure you don’t have the Honeypot field’s shortcode in your CF7 editor? Or is that what you meant by adding it manually? Did you copy and paste the CF7 Honeypot HTML from another site directly into your form editor?

The [honeypot fr512] you’re seeing is the shortcode manually typed attempting to get it to work. The CF7 Honeypot HTML Generate Tag Button i’m seeing in the video at ~1:11 mark isn’t there.

Here is a screen grab when editing the contact form:

    [honeypot fr512]

    <label> Subject

    <label> Your Message

    Thanks.

update: thinking there might be a possible compatibility issue between the Honeypot plugin and the theme, i tried activating several other generic/default themes, and internet browsers, to see how it behaves. same outcome. no Generate Tag Button for whatever reason.

latest: I’ve uninstalled the plugin, reinstalled, changed the theme from the current, to a generic, back to the current, and the Honeypot button has now appeared. Interesting.

Very strange. The only thing I can think of is that it might be a browser or server-side caching issue, or perhaps a file permissions issue. If it disappears again, see if there are any issues popping up in the inspector pane’s console tab (right-click with the contact form editor open, and select “Inspect” or “Inspect Element” and then look at the console tab for any errors. Also check the Network tab to see if anything comes up with an error.

Going to mark as resolved for now, but please do re-open if it presents itself again.

Same issue for me. Plugin is installed and activated, but there is no ‘honeypot’ in the available list of tags from the ‘generate tag’ dropdown when I try to edit the forms. Can someone help or should I put this into a new thread? Thanks.

@hossainshakil, I notice you’re using CF7 4.2.1, which was released June 2015. I would start by updating your version of CF7 to the latest version.

@michaelhutton82, are you by chance also using an older version of CF7?

Thanks @daobydesign – you were correct (I should have looked into this first). I am doing this work on behalf of a client and their entire site, including CF7 was out of date. Just ran all the updates and the plugin now works as it should. Thanks again.

    Great to hear Michael.

WordPress 4.9.5 running Pro theme. (Themeco)
    All plugins up-to-date

    Contact Form 7 5.0.1

Contact Form Plugins installed & activated:

    Phone mask field
    Conditional Fields
    Honeypot

There is no “CF7 tag generator”

Hope I provided enough information to resolve the issue.
