Contact Form 7 integration not consistently working

I’ve included a ‘sign up to our mailing list’ button in our contact form.
I’ve tested the contact form with 5 different email addresses. Each submitted message is sent, but for only one of the five email addresses did I get a double-opt-in message.
How I understand MailChimp is that I also can’t see the submitted email addresses on MailChimp *before* they agreed to the double-opt-in.So, how to troubleshoot this?
