I installed a brand new clean WordPress install and installed nothing else but Contact form 7, I sent the email to a different hotmail address and guess what?…it still didn’t work. I think this plugin is either broke or conflicts/doesn’t work with WordPress 4.3…Any ideas?

CF7 works flawlessly and sends millions of emails everyday. The green Success message and not receiving any error messages is a very clear indication that CF7 is sending the email.

So your email is probably being seen as spam somewhere in the email process. This is usually due to email headers (in particular the From email address used) or email content.

Emails can be considered spam for a whole host of reasons and get rejected at many points in the email process in addition to your spam folder.

See Contact Form 7 Email Issues – this links to a much more comprehensive article which also covers emails being considered spam.

See also Best Practice to Set Up Mail.

If you find you need more detailed advice, after reading and working through the above links, please include a link to your Contact Form 7 form plus all your input in the Form and Mail sections of the CF7 interface. This should allow others to understand your actual problem and offer a possible solution.

Yeh, first thing I thought was “Spam folder” and so I checked that first. I tried it on 3 different email addresses one of which was my hotmail. It’s like I send the email and it just gets lost in the ether! Could it be something to do with my web host? What does CF7 use to send the email? Is it phpmail? Could that be a good place to start the search?

CF7 uses the WordPress API (wp_mail) to send mail, as most plugins do.

If CF7 says the email was sent and you haven’t received it, then your mail is not properly setup. See WordPress emails are sent but not received.

“If CF7 says the email was sent and you haven’t received it, then your mail is not properly setup”

Is that the email account receiving? Cos Like I say I tried several different addresses. I even tried to send email via Outlook to make sure there wasn’t a problem with the account. Sent manually it gets through but sent through WP it just doesn’t arrive. Like I said, I also set up a new WordPress install, no other plugins, default theme, default settings on CF7 with just the email address swapped for mine and still not coming through…I’m baffled!

The sending mail account is not properly setup. Not necessarily the receiving account.

I have only started having issues simce the latest upgrade today. This has also caused issues with my clients website.

Gmail is receiving mail okay, though matching domain emails ([email protected]) do not receive mail now.

CliveO, I am struggling with the same exact issue.
None of the paths suggested here seem to work.

Was wondering if you resolved the issue – and if so – how?
    Thanks.

Yes, I have it working now. I did 2 things, one was to contact my web host and tell them of the issues I was experiencing. They did a server upgrade last week and I thought this could have affected it. Their response was:

The issue was occurring due the mail server IP blocked on Hotmail hence the mails are rejecting there. I have switched the mail server IP to another IP and confirmed that the mails sending without any issue.

I don’t think this was the issue though because I tested it on several email addresses, only one of which was a hotmail address.

The second thing I tried was to roll Contact Form 7 back to an earlier version. I uninstalled and deleted the installed version and then installed the version that came with the theme (v4.1.2). I think the new version may have conflicted with something in the theme I am using (WP Richer) but all seems fine now.

    I’m having the same issue.

Where do I get older versions of CF7 to roll back to?

When I roll back, do I lose all the forms I’ve set-up?

    Thanks!

    I solved my problem.

I was using a semi-colon to separate email addresses (for cc:’s) in the additional headers box, instead of a comma (in case it helps anyone else!).

I found this plug-in which the author says corrects the way WordPress formats the “From” and it worked immediately.
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/set-email-sender/
The function inside it can be added to the functions file directly and will work from there as well if you don’t want to use it as a plug-in for any reason.

@davmerit, thanks for your detailed reply to the question. I solved an issue today with your help.
