• I have CF7 installed on around 80 websites. Over the last couple of weeks they’ve all run into problems. First I updated the exceptions in Autoptimize, that seemed to work for a few days then they reverted to the never-ending spinning wheel.

So then I deactivated Autoptimize on all my sites, it worked for a few days but now I find that I still get the problem – this time with WP Fastest Cache. Before clearing the cache the wheel spins, after clearing it works.

You can’t have web developers removing all their caching and significantly changing websites just to suit one form plugin. It was supposedly the best but I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth since the last update.

What would be the best substitute for CF7?

  • The same with me on hundreds of sites. A shame that such a reputable plugin lets a bug persist for so long. I lost a lot of money. At first I had the wheel spinning indefinitely but I got the message, and now it doesn’t send at all (error message). I’m going to have to install Ninja Forms everywhere, I’ve already spent hours trying to fix CF7 and I’m going to spend hours installing a new plugin everywhere. I am very disappointed with the technical service which does not react at all and lets us down …

Where can we see the website in question?

Me too. My sign up form does not work on google chrome or safari, on iphone. I have to make a new form I guess using Ninja mentioned above. Unless someone else has a good suggestion. No support at all, no way to contact support, for CF7.

I had the same problem. Do you use reCAPTCHA integration? For me, after disabling reCAPTCHA, the CF7 started working properly. Maybe it will also work for you

I do use ReCaptcha v2 on most sites, I think there is a perfect storm of caching plugins, ReCaptcha and the new update of CF7 which has been widely discussed for a few weeks now so I’m surprised the authors have not released a guide to their findings and how we can all proactively keep these features working together.

What did you replace ReCaptcha with?

Yes the bug has been there for too long. Seeing that the plugin author is only asking for the URL of the page, when there are already dozens of complaint messages, is really not reassuring!

I installed Ninja Forms which works fine but it does not show up on my Woocommerce, where I installed WPForms Lite.

Ninja Forms translates automatically in all languages which I liked for my multilingual sites, and for WPForms Lite I don’t know yet if it does too, but it seems to be very used and it also works well even on Woocommerce .

Good luck with the installation. It will take me a good part of the day!

Thanks for the tips. While I’m looking for a replacement to CF7 I’d like to correct the issue that I’ve always had with getting a date field to work with Safari, all my clients complain that the date picker or manual entry causes problems in Safari – if anyone has a good fix for this I’d be grateful.

@talbot649 I use reCAPTCHA v3. I remove captcha key with WC7 integration and I added it directly in my code using JS and function to call them.

Currently CF7 work and send email, but if I have spam I will know after a few days.

It is happening on all my websites as well ever since the update! How unprofessional this is..my customers are saying they cannot send messages, register their products for warranty and sign up to newsletters..

    Crap plugin..

same problem on 100+ sites :(( how fix this ?

Still not resolved ?! I did well to spend the night changing the form on all my sites then. I advise you to do the same rather than losing money. Obviously the captain has left the ship!

Here’s what I found. It seems to me that the problem occurs on version 5.4 .. on version 5.3.2 there is no such problem. Because sites where I have not updated anything work fine. But wherever there is 5.4 there is this problem. I will refuse and test .. the night is not enough for me to remake 300+ sites)

Yes I think 5.4 had major updates (https://contactform7.com/category/releases/), and I don’t want to criticise the author of a free plugin which has been excellent for years, but testing would/should have highlighted the problems in common installations with caching software and ReCaptcha. I don’t understand why these issues weren’t ironed out before full release, and/or a detailed guide to help us proactively prevent issues which have been widely reported.
