Contact Form 7 – One on 2 fields required

Hi,
I’ve found a post explaining how to make a conditional validation on 2 required fields so If at least one of both is filled, the other field wont be required anymore.
Can you please tell me if this is still actual and should be working with the actual version of the plugin since this thread is 2 years old.
Also, can you please give an example?
What I use is the following and I don’t get the expected result.
[text* your-firstname or_tag:your-lastname watermark “PRéNOM*”]
[text* your-lastname or_tag:your-firstname watermark “NOM*”]
