Contact Form is Broke “there was an error sending your email please try later”

I use the contact form for two applications, email and site registration. I have had no contacts in a while so I checked each form. When I try to send an email using the contact form I get the message there was an error trying to send your email. On the site registration form, I get no response and no entry in the site database.

It had been working and not sure if the recent updates to WP version or update to the plug caused it. Neither works.
