• Note: I attempted to update my version of WordPress but repeatedly received an error message (in IE and Firefox). So for now I still have the older version installed.

My contact form is not working. When users attempt it they receive a red-bordered error message that says: “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

I read another support forum post about the contact form and followed those suggestions. This included contacting my web host and asking it for guidance, which is:

“Please make sure your form is using scriptmail.intermedia.net as the smtp server in your script.

Please also make sure the parameters configured on your form meet the following requirements:

? The domain name in either From address or all recipient addresses (To, CC and BCC) must be registered on your account with Intermedia
? Domain in From, To, CC and BCC fields must be globally registered in DNS (we check for A or MX records)

I am not a WordPress developer (someone else set up my site for me). However I went into my WordPress Dashboard and looked at the Contact Form 7 page, down into “edit contact form 1.” I see some code for the form fields, but I don’t see a place to address the Intermedia scriptmail requirement. I think I’m OK on the other parameter requirements.

The site is https://www.larsonslade.com, but I assume simply viewing the site will not reveal the problem.

  • I don’t see a place to address the Intermedia scriptmail requirement

What you want is an SMTP plugin to input those settings. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/postman-smtp

When configuring Postman, according to your host’s instructions, you’ll want to check the box in the Advanced Message settings that says “Prevent plugins from modifying this field” (for email address).

Also the email address you configure Postman with “must be registered on your account with Intermedia”

You’ll also want to make sure you’ve set the Reply-To header in CF7 so that you can reply to your visitors.

When users attempt it they receive a red-bordered error message

I tried to download and install Postman and received this error message, which I also received when I tried to update my version of WordPress:

“Download failed. SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed”

    Any suggestions to correct?

No. That’s a server issue that your host will have to help you correct. It could mean that your OpenSSL certs are out of date. Upgrade your server!

Ask for Postman, get it manually from the download link. Then in the Plugins menu, choose Add New, then Upload.
