• Hello! ?? My contact form used to be set up just fine but somewhere around March of this year, it stopped working. It’s totally my fault for not noticing sooner (I was in school), but now I am very stuck. I have spent a good amount of time on the Contact Form 7 website (as well as googling my issue), with no luck whatsoever.

My problem: When you try and submit the contact form, an orange dialogue box pops up saying, “There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.” See: https://www.bethelhealth.center/contact-us/

I have already changed the default “From” address from [email protected] to [email protected] but the emails are still being flagged as spam immediately and not being sent at all. Nothing shows up in the Flamingo plug-in anymore, either.

I am using the Avada theme, and after reading a suggestion I found via a google search, I changed some things in the Avada Theme Options contact form section, with no change in results, unfortunately.

I also messed around with changing back to recaptcha 2 instead of 3. I wasn’t even able to make the reCAPTCHA 2 show up when I made changes. That was a bit confusing. I even tried making a whole new contact form but that didn’t make a difference either.

Edited to add: I also added a plug-in “WP Mail SMTP” that some youtube video claimed was supposed to help avoid emails being marked as spam but this did not solve the problem either.

I tried submitting a support ticket through Avada but since it’s a plug-in issue, they said they couldn’t help and just referred me to a page that talked about changing the default email address (which I had already done before contacting them).

I figured I would reach out here to see if anyone else has encountered similar issues with Contact Form 7 because I don’t know what else could be wrong. Any insights that you might have would be greatly appreciated!

I ran into a similar issue after updating to the latest WordPress version and updating plugins this week.

Updating my ReCaptcha v2 to v3 and changing out both keys seemed to work. If you have Flamingo, go ahead and tag some of the messages as spam/not spam to help the spam filter come up with an accurate rating.

Thank you for the reply! I apologize for not being more specific in my original post. I have flamingo 2.0 installed and it is not logging anything from the contact form.

I have a reCAPTCHA v3 and I entered the associated keys into the “setup integration” section. On the google website it is registering 0 requests.

I have had akismet installed (api key and all) from the beginning (back when the form was working). I just added the akismet tags but the form still doesn’t work. Specifically, I told akismet to always put spam in the spam folder for review (rather than silently getting rid of the worst spam), and yet it still isn’t showing anything in the spam folder. That might just be for comments, though.

I am also following your advice on the “best practices” page and made sure I am using emails that match my domain, and I also created a [email protected] email address.

At this point, I am not sure what else to try. Any other suggestions?
