Forms stopped working after updating WordPress and the plugin. Getting the following error in an orange box: “Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

I reached out to my hosting provider who also could not find the issue. Below is their message and findings:

“I see that this ticket was created in regard to issues affecting the form on “stevemocrae.com/barrie-dentist-contact”. Checking into this I was able to replicate the reported error message when submitting the form; however, we have also confirmed no errors are being generated to the Apache error logs to indicate an issue at the system level. Additionally, no logs were generated within the Systems mail log file– indicating the site is not establishing a proper email connection to the server.

Checking further, we processed the installation of a WordPress SMTP plugin (as SMTP authentication is the most reliable method for sending messages through the server), and configured the site to send messages as “[email protected]” using SMTP authentication. Once set, we were able to send test emails through the site without issue or error, but submitting the form still did not generate and email connections from the site.

Thus far, we have established that the site and the server is capable of sending emails. It appears that the issue is specific to the form and will need to be investigated further in regard to the form/plugin itself. Unfortunately, we will not be able to assist in review of the plugin itself and would advise to reach out to its developer for diagnosis and correction. We do apologize for any inconvenience in that regard.”

Any insight or help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Same problem.
All my forms stopped sending after update, I get the following error message “There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later. “

Mine seems to be related to the recaptha update even though I reconfigured it all… When I turn it off, forms send ok.

See If You Have Email Problems – most people that work carefully through this list of email sending issues are able to solve their particular problems.

There are a series of links to an article I wrote at the bottom of that page (which is recommended by the CF7 plugin author, though I’m not allowed to link directly to it here), that covers this topic in detail.

If you can add all your input in the Form and Mail sections of the CF7 interface (add as code or include as link to screenshots), this will helps others to understand your actual problem and offer you some guidance, which may help you to find a solution a bit quicker.

@shetlandshake It’s a little early for me so I’ll try to be direct. Probably not concise though.

I’ve archived your comments. Your personal attack is still there and any moderator can still read it. It was caught by the spam filter thankfully.

As it is, your account is now on moderation watch and every reply and post from you will need to be approved by a moderator before anyone else can see it. When you demonstrate to the moderator’s satisfaction that you can be civil then the flag may be removed.

If you have a repeat of that, you’ll be banned. That behavior includes the childish tag you added to attack another user. That has been removed.

These topics are not the authors. They belong to the person who reported the problem and pile on replies does not help the original person with the problem. That is why everyone is asked to start their own topic. In addition to focusing on the problem, it also provides a better idea based on the topic how prevalent the problem is.

That’s how these forums work, that’s how they’ve always worked.

If you need support then per the forum guidelines please start your own topic.

@shetlandshake – turning off recaptcha solved the problem for me as well. Thank you!

@ohliza – it really does not solve ALL the problems. Doing that might result in insane spam for you. It was a temporary solution. If your site is very niche and doesn’t get much traffic you might be ok with it for a while.
Keep looking for a solve. I still haven’t found one and keep relying on luck.

But it is nice that my line of thinking helped you ??
