• A few days ago I opened my blog site and the body/content font was different. I was using Josefin Sans from Google fonts.
I ruled out any plug-in conflict, cleared my cache, and I do not have any updates.
I am new to WordPress so I am not very confident but I have tirelessly researched this problem but have had no luck in finding a solution. Any thoughts?? Why would a body/content font spontaneously change and how do I return to my original font?
    Thanks in advance!

  • That font is showing on your website for me. Have you gotten this sorted out?

Why would a body/content font spontaneously change

There are many possible reasons for this. You could have added the font by editing theme files and an update overrode your changes, the font could have been dropped by Google (although not in this case), your style sheets are not being loaded properly are the ones that come to mind.

The font is there, it is just not the Josefin Sans font I originally added. It appears very bold now.
I did edit theme files to add this google font. How do I check to see if my style sheets are loading?
I do noticed that under my Appearance tab, there is no longer an “Editor” option where I used to be able to see my style sheet. Any thoughts where this went?
    Thanks.

You’ll want to undo that at some point. This is never a good idea. You can add Google fonts via a child theme, via custom CSS, or via a plugin.

How do I check to see if my style sheets are loading?

Press F12 to open the inspector, and then click on the “Console” tab. It will show you any files that didn’t load.

It’s still there in 4.8.1, so I’m not sure what your issue could be. You can try the usual WordPress debugging techniques for this.

The missing Editor was being caused by a conflict with iThemes Security. I deactivated this plugin and the editor is now visible.

I am working with a child theme. The Josefin sans font is still there. It is just appearing very bold now.

Not sure what that means though it seems others have had issue with this Google font.

Yes, the Josefin Sans font was suddenly changed by google, see https://github.com/google/fonts/issues/1193

So nothing changed on your side and site, it was the font that changed underneath you and us who use it. Crazy. https://github.com/google/fonts/issues/1193 suggests to try use the weight 300, which is similar but not the same as the old normal/400. Or, alternatively to host the old font yourself.
