• Hi,

I am trying to import some demo content for a theme in an XML format, but I am getting a 500 internal error. I’ve tried contacting my host and they have increased timeouts/settings etc, but they get the error too. The XML file is around 2MB.

Is there a way to import demo content via FTP rather then the WP Importer? Or does anyone know of any other ways?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

It’s not possible to import demo content via FTP.

If your xml file is a WordPress export file, you can use Tools -> Import to import it.

If your xml file is a theme option generated file, you will have to use your theme’s import option to import it.

Regarding 500 internal error. This is a generic error message, does not tell you what went wrong during import process. You need to ask your web hosting company to check your error log to find out what’s causing this issue and troubleshoot accordingly.

If you are sure that it’s not a server issue. You can re-export your content just to make sure your export file is not corrupted.

Hope this information helps in someway.

    Thank you

    Hi,

Where would the theme import option be? I only seem to have the WordPress import.

    Hi,

Where would the theme import option be? I only seem to have the WordPress import.

It depends on whether your theme has such an option, either build in or via a plugin. You will have to check with your theme author.

It’s not a WordPress requirement. Recent submitted themes will not be allowed to have such an option.

    Thank you.
