Contributor Role Cannot Access WP Dashboard After 2.0 Upgrade

You are absolutely right. The AAM 2.x is completely new and different than 1.x. It has been re-written from scratch. And if you are willing to spend a little bit more time with new version you will find out that it is actually easier to use, more robust and has more features than 1.x.
We no longer support AAM 1.x and dedicate our time to new version.

The reason something might not work for you is that AAM 2.x does not support 1.x settings. That is why we created Migration Settings feature (you might noticed the Admin Notification on top of your Admin Panel). This does not transport all settings but still is quite helpful.
In case you still want to deal with AAM 1.x, you can always downgrade it. Just download any version you like from WordPress official repository.

Thank you for your response Vasyl. Unfortunately, my support team still cannot figure out why the Contributor role cannot properly login now and had to create a special plugin in order to fix the issue. This may not have been caused by your upgrade, but the problem occurred right after your upgrade. I hope you can look into why this might have happened if other users report incidents. Thank you.

Oh. This might relate to contributor capabilities. Can your team check if that role has enough capabilities actually to login? This is most of the time is the case.

They can login but then get an error upon redirecting to the WordPress dashboard.

I have same error with Administrator role user. I can access to any page inside dashboard, but no access to dashboard homepage.

Ok. Let’s see what might be wrong. First of all, does it says anything? What type of message you see?
Also, please check if for Administrator Role everything is unchecked on Menu Tab (click on AAM->Access Control and Menu Tab is the first Tab with the list of Admin Menu)

It says “Access denied” on empty page. No header, no footer, no menu.

Also, please check if for Administrator Role everything is unchecked on Menu Tab (click on AAM->Access Control and Menu Tab is the first Tab with the list of Admin Menu)

Yes, everything is unchecked, but there is one thing. In the “Admin Menu” list no “Dashboard” items. It contains “Post”, “Media”, “Links”, “Pages”, etc… but no “Dashboard”. In 1.* versions of AAM “Dashboard” item was present.
Rollback to old versions or deletion of plugin does not helps.

For “Super admin” all right.

If you are using the latest AAM 2.0 (not beta) release, can you please make a dump of your wp_options & wp_usermeta database tables and send it to us for review ([email protected]).

In case you are using still Beta versions, please update to the latest.
